On January 3, 8 people were killed and 12 others were injured following suspected US airstrikes near Baghdad International Airport (BGW). The victims included the head of Iran’s Quds Force, Major-General Qassem Soleimani and the deputy head of Iraqi militia Hashd Shaabi (aka Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.
The incident was reported after 12 am local time near the air cargo terminal.
The incident is the last episode of the recent escalation between the United States, Iran and Iraq following the December 29th U.S. airstrikes on Hashd al-Shaabi (PMF) Kata’ib Hezbollah (KH) near al-Qaim, Anbar province, Iraq:
