How to automatically geotag a news article on a map

Among the many tasks that a risk intelligence analyst has to do while writing a report is to geotag the event on a map. This may take between a few seconds and some minutes depending on how easy is to identify the location(s) on the article or social media post that the analyst is using as a source.

At Hozint we have automatized this task by using Artificial Intelligence.

How does it work?

After having detected a relevant article, our smart crawler Lookout will extract the text of the article and identify the locations that are mentioned in the text. Then, it will geotag those locations using mapping APIs. All this is done in just a few seconds.

The key benefit of this process is to optimize the work of a team of analysts who are working on specific geographical areas since it is way more efficient than a traditional keyword search.
