Haiti | Workers’ unions call for nationwide general strike on October 25

On October 25, various workers’ unions have called for a nationwide general strike. The measure, named “fèmen peyi” (“closed country”), aims to paralyze as many activities as possible, in demand for an improvement in the security situation and the proper supply of fuels across the country. Protest actions oftentimes involve roadblocks, burning tires, violent clashes with the police, and an increase in the already high criminal acts of local armed gangs.
