On July 14, the fishermen’s union is planning to hold a protest in Port Louis. The protest will be staged in front of the Ministry of Blue Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries, and Shipping. The union is organising the protest against the government authorities’ inaction against the union’s demands.

 

Nigeria | State authorities to increase bus fares, from July 13, in Lagos
On July 13, the state authorities will increase bus fares in Lagos. According to an announcement by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, bus fares will increase by NGN 100 for all Bus Rapid Transit and standard routes. The rise in fuel prices is reportedly the primary cause for the hike in fare.

 

Nigeria | Bakers to go on nationwide strike from July 13 to 27

From July 13 to 25, the Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of the South East chapter of Nigeria (AMBCN) has declared that it will go on strike. This decision follows the increase in the price of raw materials.

From July 11, stations between Pantitlan and Salto del Agua will be partially closed due to maintenance work on Line 1 of CDMX Metro. The closures are part of phase 1 of the metro modernisation project that will last until March 2023.

On July 11, the mandatory use of masks in closed and open spaces will be lifted, with the exception of public and private health facilities, and public transport.

From July 14, Korean Air will resume direct flight services between Incheon (ICN) and Bali (DPS). The airline is planning, pending approval from authorities, to operate 2 flights per week – on Thursdays and Sundays.

 

Sri Lanka | President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to resign on July 13

On July 13, Sri Lanka’s President, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, is expected to step down following months of protest against his government amid an unprecedented economic crisis. The Parliament will reportedly have 30 days to elect a new government.

 

Thailand | Pro-democracy group to hold a protest against PM in Bangkok on July 12

On July 12, the pro-democracy Thalugaz group will hold a protest against Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha in Bangkok. The protest march will be held around 3 pm local time from the Victory Monument to the Rajamangala National Stadium. Disruptions and clashes may occur.

 

China – Japan | ANA to resume direct flights from Beijing (PEK) to Tokyo-Narita Airport (NRT) on July 11

On July 11, All Nippon Airways (ANA) will resume direct flight services from Beijing (PEK) to Tokyo-Narita Airport (NRT). According to the airline, for now it will only operate weekly (on Mondays) 1-way flights from Bejing to Tokyo due to China’s strict COVID-19 quarantine restrictions for travellers on incoming flights. The airline will use the aircraft as a cargo carrier on the Tokyo to Beijing journey.

France | Mandatory face masks on public transportation in Nice, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur from July 11
As of July 11, face masks on public transportation will be mandatory in Nice, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. This is due to the increase in cases of COVID-19 in the city.

 

France | Demonstration organised by Yellow Vests and Revolte Colère expected in Paris, on July 14
On July 14, a demonstration organised by Yellow Vests and Revolte Colère is expected in Paris. The demonstration is scheduled at 11:00 am local time on Champs Élysée.

Georgia | Leader of South Ossetia announces referendum for joining Russian Federation, on July 17

On July 17, South Ossetia, a breakaway region in Georgia, will hold a referendum to join the Russian Federation. South Ossetia was at the centre of the Russian-Georgian war in 2008.

 

Germany | S-Bahn lines S3, S5, S7, and S9 to face restrictions, from July 11-28, in Berlin

From July 11 to July 28, S-Bahn lines S3, S5, S7, and S9, between Ostbahnhof and Zoologischer Garten, will face restrictions in Berlin.

  • – From 4 am local time on July 4 until 1:30 am on July 18 the lines will be closed between Alexanderplatz and Zoologischer Garten.
  • – From July 18-28, the lines will be closed between Ostbahnhof and Friedrichstraße.
  • – According to Deutsche Bahn, passengers can avail replacement buses, in addition to taking trams and regional trains.
  • – The lines will be closed due to tracks and switches maintenance and repair works.

 

Germany – Russia | Nord Stream pipelines to be suspended due to maintenance work from July 11 to 21
From July 11 to 21, both lines of Nord Stream will be suspended. According to Nord Stream AG, the closure is due to maintenance works.

 

Italy | Low-cost airlines workers and air traffic control workers to go on strike on July 17
On July 17, workers in low-cost airlines, including Easyjet, Volotea, Ryanair, Malta Air, and CrewLink, are planning to go on a 24-hour strike in Italy. Meanwhile, air traffic control workers at various airports, including the Milan air control centre, are also planning to hold a work-stoppage strike on July 17 from 2 pm to 6 pm local time. According to an update, the strike has been shortened to 4 hours. The strike will be held from 2 pm to 6 pm local time.

 

Kazakhstan | Ban on export of petroleum and diesel fuel by ground transportation from July 12
From July 12, the Ministry of Energy announced a ban on the export of petroleum and diesel fuel by ground transportation for a period of 6 months. An exception is made for lubricants and petroleum, which are transported in gas tanks of motor vehicles and in separate containers with a maximum volume of 20 litres.

 

Montenegro | Pensioners to hold a protest in Bijelo Polje on July 11
On July 11, a protest will be held in Bijelo Polje. The protest is staged against the plight of pensioners and lower pension rates. The labour party will support this protest.

 

Spain | CSIF rally to be held in Badajoz, Extremadura on July 12
On July 12, a rally will be held in Badajoz, Extremadura. The rally is staged by CSIF against unequal wages and for fair and equal treatment for all workers. The rally will take place in front of Badajoz city hall.

United Kingdom | Around 1,500 Post Office workers to go on strike, over salary dispute, on July 11

On July 11, around 1,500 Post Office workers will go on a strike over a salary dispute. Post Office services are likely to be disrupted as members of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) take part in the strike across 114 Crown Post Offices.

 

United Kingdom | Climate activists to hold protest, against fossil fuel investment, on July 12 in Lewes, England

On July 12, climate activists will protest against fossil fuel investment in Lewes, England. The protest march will begin from Lewes railway station at 9 am local time before proceeding to the County Hall. The protest is being organised by ‘Divest East Sussex’ to demand the East Sussex County Council stop investing in fossil fuels via their pension fund.

On July 12, a strike is planned by journalists and workers of Al-Watan newspaper. The strike is to demand wages, which have not been paid in 4 months, as well as the denial of worker benefits.

 

Algeria – Tunisia | Land border between Algeria and Tunisia to open on July 15

On July 15, the land border between Algeria and Tunisia will open. The opening was announced on July 5 by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The reopening will include the mobility of private persons and vehicles and not just cargo transportation as it was previously in effect. The border was closed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

Morocco | Environmental protection organization announces protest in Tiznit on July 16

On July 16, an environmental protection organization announced a protest in Tiznit. The protesters will gather in front of the Tiznit Prefecture at 3 pm local time. The protest comes against the government’s treatment of the land of indigenous people.
