From July 19, the State of Siege will be extended in North Kivu and Ituri. The decision comes amid increasing security issues in the two provinces.

 

Ghana | Public sector workers’ unions planning to go on strike from July 19

From July 19, public sector workers’ unions, including nurses and teachers, are planning to go on a strike. The strike has been called to demand a 20 per cent cost of living allowance. Update: As of July 14, the labour unions have reportedly called off the strike after they reached an agreement with the government on a 15 per cent Cost of Living Allowance (COLA).

 

Malawi | Demonstration against Saulos Chilima to be held on July 20 in Lilongwe, Central Region

On Jul 20, a demonstration against Saulos Chilima will be held in Lilongwe, Central Region. The protest will be staged against Vice President Saulos Chilima. Demonstrators will march from Lilongwe Community Grounds to the office of the District Council.

 

Senegal | SYNACOM calls for a strike from July 19 to 21

From July 19 to 21, the National Union of Trade Administration Agents (SYNACOM) has called for a strike at the Ministry of Commerce and SMEs. The strike has been organised to demand better pay and resources and the recruitment of more temporary agents.

On July 19, Socialist Party members plan to hold a protest over the removal of mobile money booths in Lusaka. The booths are reportedly being removed in preparation for the African Union (AU) summit.

On July 19, Clean Streets Penticton will hold a protest in Penticton, British Columbia. The protest will take place at the City hall on 171 Main Street before the beginning of the council meeting. The protest is staged against the lack of action from the city in the face of increasing crime.

 

Peru | Taxi drivers to hold a protest in Tacna on July 18

On July 18, taxi drivers will hold a protest in Tacna. The protest will begin at 9:30 am at the Plaza Quiñones. The protest is staged against rising violence against taxi drivers and a lack of protection from authorities.

 

United States | Protest against Roe v. Wade decision to be held in Richmond, Texas on July 23

On July 23, a protest against the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision will be held in Houston, Texas. The demonstration is scheduled at 10 am local time at the Historic Courthouse on 401 Jackson Street.

 

United States | Protests against Roe v. Wade decision to be held in Pierre, South Dakota on July 23 and 24

On July 23 and 24, protests against Roe v. Wade decision will be held in Pierre, South Dakota. On July 23, a march will begin at 1:15 pm on South Dakota Boulevard and pass the Capitol. On July 24, a sit-in event is planned at 9 am around South Dakota Boulevard.

On July 24, a protest against the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision will be held in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The demonstration is scheduled at 5:30 pm local time in downtown Minneapolis (the exact location is to be released on the day of the event).

 

Venezuela | Ferry service on Isla de Margarita-La Guaira-Isla de Margarita route to resume from July 20

On July 20, the ferry service on the Isla de Margarita-La Guaira-Isla de Margarita route will resume. The ferry service will operate every Wednesday from Isla de Margarita to La Guaira and return from La Guaira to Isla de Margarita every Thursday.

On July 19, a shutdown protest has been called in Odisha. The protest has been called by Naba Nirman Chhatra Sangathan and demands justice following a suicide.

 

Indonesia | Labour unions to hold a protest against the lowering of the minimum wage in Jakarta on July 19
On July 19, labour unions will hold a protest against the decision of the State Administrative Court to lower the provincial minimum wage in Jakarta. The protest will take place at City Hall and in front of the State Administrative Court.

 

New Caledonia (France) | Healthcare workers to go on a strike countrywide on July 21
On July 21, healthcare workers associated with la Fédération des Fonctionnaires (the Federation of Civil Servants) will hold a strike countrywide. The strike will occur from 7 am until 4 pm local time. Protests may take place as well in Noumea and other town centres.

 

New Zealand | Number of bus services to be reduced, due to driver shortages, from July 19 in Queenstown and Dunedin, Otago
From July 19, the number of bus services will be reduced in Queenstown and Dunedin, Otago. According to the Otago Regional Council transport manager, the revised schedule will be implemented on all 7 days in Queenstown; meanwhile, in Dunedin, the revised schedule will be implemented on weekdays with normal weekend services running. The bus services have been reduced due to a shortage of bus drivers.

 

Pakistan | Petroleum Dealers Association announces nationwide strike from July 18
On July 2, the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association announced a nationwide strike to be held from July 18. Petrol stations across the country will be shut down due to low-profit margins and increasing petroleum product prices. The strike will reportedly be held until the demands are met by the government.

 

Philippines | Ban on carrying firearms to be in place, from July 22-27, in Metro Manila on the occasion of the new president’s first State of the Nation Address
From July 22 to 27, a ban will be in place on carrying firearms in Metro Manila. The ban has been imposed as a security measure for the occasion of new president Ferdinand Marcos Jr’s first State of the Nation Address.

 

Sri Lanka | Parliament to elect new President on July 20

On July 20, the Parliament will elect the new President of Sri Lanka. Nominations will be held on July 19.

On July 23-34, Belgian Ryanair pilots will go on a strike. The strike is for the implementation of local labour legislation.

 

France – Palestinian territories | Mahmoud Abbas to meet French President Macron on July 20

On July 20, the President of the Palestinian National Authority Mahmoud Abbas will meet French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris. The 2 leaders are expected to hold talks on the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and the Palestinian elections.

 

France | SNPL calls on Ryanair pilots to strike at Marseille, Toulouse, Bordeaux and Beauvais airports on July 23-24

On July 23 and 24, the Malta Air section of the Syndicat National des Pilotes de Ligne (SNPL) has called on Ryanair pilots to strike at Marseille (MRS), Toulouse (TLS), Bordeaux (BOD) and Beauvais airports. The strike has been called following the failure of the management of Malta Air (a subsidiary of the Ryanair group) to respect the commitments it had previously agreed to.

 

Italy | Truck drivers planning to go on a nationwide strike from July 18 to 22

From July 18 until July 22, truck drivers’ unions are planning to go on a nationwide strike. The strike is expected to begin at 12 am local time on July 18 and the following unions are taking part in the strike – FIAP UNITED TRANSPORT, PMIA TRANSPORT, CEPI FT, UNILAVORO PMI, CONFIMEA, FT, ANAP, ASS. 3 AXES, and SATI. The strike has been organised against rising fuel costs and cut in excise duties.

 

Italy | Taxi drivers go on strike in Milan, Lombardy on July 20 and 21

On July 20, a strike will be held in Milan, Lombardy. The strike will be staged by the taxi drivers and the unions against the DDL Concorrenza.

 

Italy | Public transport strike scheduled to be held in Milan, Lombardy on July 21

On July 21, the ATM transport strike will be held in Milan, Lombardy. The strike is staged by the union Ost A.L. Cobas. The strike will last 4 hours. There will be disruption on the subway, buses, and tram lines.

 

Italy | Trenitalia railway workers’ unions to strike across Calabria on July 22

On July 22, the Trenitalia railway workers’ unions will stage a strike across Calabria. The strike will be carried out from 9:01 am to 5 pm local time. The Filt-Cgil, Fit-Cisl, Uglferrovieri, and Orsa unions have called the strike. The strike action is being taken to protest against staff shortages, working conditions, and other issues.

 

Netherlands | Protesting farmers’ group planning to hold demonstrations during Four Days March, on July 19-22, in Nijmegen, Gelderland

Between July 19 and 22, the protesting farmers’ group, Farmers Defense Force (FDF), is planning to hold demonstrations during the Four Days March in Nijmegen, Gelderland. The plan was announced by FDF leader, Mark van den Oever. The demonstrations will be held against the government’s nitrogen policy.

 

Netherlands | Traffic disruptions likely due to road closures, from July 22-August 3, in Amsterdam

From July 22 to August 3, traffic disruptions are likely, due to road closures, in Amsterdam. The roads that will be closed include the A10 Zuid and A4 motorway from the Badhoevedorp junction to the S109 ramp. Due to the closure, traffic will have to take a detour via the A9 and A5. The closure will begin on July 22 at 10 pm local time and end on the morning of August 3. The closures will be implemented due to construction work for the Zuidasdok infrastructure project.

 

Russia | Flights from Kazan (KZN) to Arkhangelsk (ARH) and Syktyvkar (SCW), to resume on July 20

On July 20, flights from Kazan Airport (KZN) to Arkhangelsk (ARH) and Syktyvkar (SCW) will resume. The flights will operate twice a week until September 28, with the flight to Arkhangelsk and Syktyvkar flying on Wednesdays and Sundays.

 

Switzerland | Ground staff at Zurich Airport (ZRH) to stage protest on July 23

On July 23, the ground staff at Zurich Airport (ZRH) will stage a protest. The ground staff are demanding a return to pre-COVID salary levels.

 

United Kingdom | Extinction Rebellion activists to hold protests, on July 19-20, in Lewes, England

On July 19 and 20, Extinction Rebellion activists will hold protests in Lewes, England. All protests will be held outside the East Sussex County Council building. On July 19, protests will be held from 9 am to 11 am and 2 pm to 3 pm local time. On July 20, protests will be held from 9 am to 11 am and 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm.

 

United Kingdom | Managers at Royal Mail to go on strike on July 20-22

On July 20-22, Managers at Royal Mail will hold a strike. The strike will involve around 2,400 managers and will disrupt postal and parcel service across the country.

 

United Kingdom | Aircraft refuelling workers at London Heathrow Airport (LHR) to strike for 72 hours from July 21

From July 21 onwards, Aircraft refuelling workers at London Heathrow Airport (LHR) voted to strike for 72 hours. Employees of Aviation Fuel Services (AFS) will stage a strike to demand an increase in wages. About 50 personnel are expected to go on strike. AFS provides fuelling services to more than 70 airlines including Virgin Atlantic, American Airlines, United, Delta and Air France and KLM.

 

United Kingdom | Just Stop Oil demonstration planned in London, England on July 23

On July 23, Just Stop Oil will hold a protest in London, England. Protesters will set off from various gathering points with the demonstration converging on Parliament Square. The protestors are being advised to have random sit-down protests along the routes.

 

United Kingdom | Arriva bus drivers to hold a strike from July 20 across northwest England

From July 20, Arriva bus drivers will hold a strike across the Northwest region in England. The following depots are likely to be affected by the strike: Birkenhead, Bolton, Bootle, Liverpool, Macclesfield, Manchester, Runcorn, Southport, Speke, St Helens, and Winsford. The strike action is being organised over a pay dispute.

 

United Kingdom | Nationwide rail strikes to be held across the country on July 23
On July 23, rail strikes will be held across the UK due to pay raise disputes. Absence of service is expected on lines operated by Arriva Rail London, Chiltern Railways, Greater Anglia, Great Western, Hull Trains, LNER, Southeastern and West Midlands Trains.

On July 19, President Putin will meet with Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Tehran. Tehran will host a trilateral conference of the Astana process guarantor nations in order to advance the Syrian peace talks.

 

Lebanon | The Federation of Sidon Municipalities threatens to go on strike on July 18-20
From July 18 to July 20, the head of the Federation of Sidon Municipalities, Muhammad Al-Saudi, threatened to hold a strike if the demands of the municipalities are not met. The municipalities demand the payment of their dues by the Independent Municipal Fund, an increase in revenues, stricter procedures against the violations of official pricing by generators’ owners, and water and electricity services.
