On October 10, staff attached to the Federation of Congo Enterprises (FEC) will go on a 7-days strike in Butembo, Beni, and Lubero, North Kivu. The strike will be held in order to protest over renewed insecurity in these cities. All businesses will close with the exception of pharmacies and schools.

 

Mali | Anti-MINUSMA protest to be held in Ségou on October 22
On October 22, an anti-MINUSMA protest will be held in Ségou. Protesters are gathering to ask for the departure of the MINUSMA from the country. Clashes with security forces may be expected.

 

Uganda – China | Uganda Airlines first flight to Guangzhou to take place on October 18
On October 18, Uganda Airlines will start its inaugural 11-hour non-stop flight between the Entebbe International Airport (EBB) in Wakiso and the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) in Guangdong. The carrier secured landing rights in China in June 2022.

Bolivia | Civil society organization to take indefinite strike action from October 22
From October 22 onwards, the civil society organization, Interinstitutional Committee for the Promotion of the Census of Santa Cruz, is scheduled to take indefinite strike action. The strike is against the Government of Bolivia deciding to go ahead with the 2024 census without prior consultation. The strike action will also involve Gabriel Rene Moreno Autonomous University.

 

Colombia | Protest to be staged against the government’s reforms in Medellin, Antioquia on October 22
On October 22, a protest will be held against the government’s reforms in Medellin, Antioquia. The protest is being planned against tax reform. The mobilization will take place in Estación Estadio del Metro de Medellín at 10 am local time towards Parque de las Luces- Alpurra.

 

United States | 5 Metro stations to be closed for works in Alexandria, Virginia between September 10 and October 22
Between September 10 and October 22, 5 Metro stations will be closed for works in Alexandria, Virginia. The following stations will be closed: Braddock Road, King St.-Old Town, Eisenhower Avenue, Huntington, Van Dorn Street, and Franconia-Springfield.

China | Social distancing measures scheduled to be eased in Hong Kong from October 20
From October 20, Social distancing measures are scheduled to be eased in Hong Kong. The following measures will be adopted:

– Live entertainment will return to bars and clubs;
– The cap on gatherings will be increased to 12 people;
– Performers will have to take 2 Covid-19 PCR per week as well as a rapid antigen test before entering the venue.

 

China| Military exercise to be held in the waters of Bohai Strait, in the Yellow Sea from October 16 to 23
From October 16 to 23, a Chinese military exercise is scheduled to take place in the water of Bohai Strait, in the Yellow Sea daily from 04.00 pm to 04.00 pm local time.

From October 15 to 28, medical practitioners can test persons suspected to have contracted COVID-19 in Hong Kong.

 

India | FKJGP to protest against unemployment to be held in Shillong, Meghalaya on October 21
On October 21, the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) will hold a protest against unemployment among youths in Shillong, Meghalaya. The protest will start from Motphran and will end at Malki.

 

India | Delhi Nursing Federation planning to hold a protest on October 18 and work stoppages from November 2 to 4 in New Delhi
From November 2 to 4, the Delhi Nursing Federation is planning to hold 2-hour work stoppages in all hospitals in New Delhi. The federation is also planning to hold a protest march from Samta Sthala to Delhi Secretariat on October 18. The nursing federation’s demands include the promotion of the entire nursing cadre and the creation of new posts along with the regularisation of nursing officers.

 

India | Flights will not operate for 6 hours from Mumbai airport (BOM) on October 18
On October 18, flights will not operate for 6 hours from Mumbai airport (BOM). The airport will remain closed from 11 am to 5 pm for post-monsoon runway repair and maintenance work.

India | Protest against proposal to build a new airport to be staged in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on October 17
On October 17, around 2,000 people from 13 villages are expected to protest against proposals to build a new airport in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The protesters are to stage a march from Ekanapuram to the Secretariat.

Thailand | “Walk For Freedom” marches to take place in Chang Klan, Chiang Mai and Pattaya, Chonburi, on October 15 and 18
On October 15 and 18, a “Walk For Freedom” march to raise awareness of human trafficking, slavery and exploitation will take place in Chang Klan and Pattaya, respectively. The march in Chang Klan will take place from 8:30 am to 10:30 am, and the one in Pattaya will last from 9 am to 11:30 am.

Belarus – United Arab Emirates | FlyDubai to resume daily flights connecting Dubai (DXB) and Minsk (MSQ) from October 21
From October 21, FlyDubai will resume daily flights connecting Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Minsk National Airport (MSQ). The departure flight from Dubai is scheduled for 4:45 pm local time and will land in Minsk at 11:00 pm local time. The return flight will depart at 12:30 am local time and will land at 06:25 am local time.

 

Belgium | Protest by Youth for Climate activists to be held in Brussels on October 23
On October 23, a protest will be held in Brussels. The protest will be staged by ‘Youth for Climate’ activists. The protest will take place on Boulevard Simon Bolivar at 1 pm local time.

 

Belgium | Climate Coalition planning to organise protest march, on October 23, in Brussels
On October 23, the Climate Coalition, a movement of more than 80 civil society organisations, is planning to organise a protest march in Brussels. The march is scheduled to begin at 1 pm local time from Brussels North station. The protest will be organised against the climate crisis in the lead-up to COP27.

 

Belgium | Demonstration to be staged by students in Sambreville, Wallonia on October 20
On October 20, students will demonstrate against climate change in Sambreville, Wallonia. The demonstration will begin at Athénée Royal de Tamines at 09:30 am local time.

 

Belgium | CPAS employees go on strike in Brussels on October 14, 20, 26, and 31
On October 14, 20, 26, and 31, strikes will be held in Brussels. The strikes will be staged by CPAS employees to denounce the overload of work. The strikes will take place in the 19 CPAS offices from 10 am to 12 pm local time.

 

Belgium – United Kingdom – United States | NATO to hold nuclear deterrence military exercises, October 17-30
From October 17-30, NATO will hold military nuclear deterrence exercises called “Steadfast Noon”. The exercise will involve up to 60 aircraft from 14 countries flying over Belgium, the North Sea, and the United Kingdom.

 

Bosnia and Herzegovina | Military exercise “Quick Response 22” to be conducted from October 17 to November 20
From October 17 to November 20, the European peacekeeping force to Bosnia and Herzegovina (EUFOR) will conduct the military exercise “Quick Response 22”. The purpose of the exercise is to demonstrate EUFOR’s capability and determination to contribute to a safe and secure environment through increased patrolling and tactical exercises in selected urban and rural areas. 20 countries are expected to participate in the training.

 

Estonia – Egypt | Nordica to charter flights from Tallinn (TLL) to Sharm El Sheikh (SSH), starting October 18

On October 18, Estonian airline Nordica will begin to fly routes from Tallinn Airport (TLL) to Sharm El Sheikh Airport (SSH). The flights will run every Tuesday and Friday, and will be operated on a 180 seat Airbus 320. “As an airline, we are constantly evolving, and offering charter flights with an Airbus 320 is a natural extension of our existing business,” stated Toomas Uibo, head of marketing and communications at Nordica.

 

France | Demonstration to free Georges Abdallah to be held in Lannemezan, Occitania on October 22
On October 22, a demonstration will be held in Lannemezan, Occitania. The demonstration will be staged by ‘Free Georges Abdallah’ group. The demonstration will take place at the central station at 2 pm local time.

 

France | Public service workers to take strike action on October 18
On October 18, public service workers are scheduled to take strike action, including the state civil service, the territorial civil service, and the hospital civil service. The strike action is being organized by the UFSE-CGT union as part of the “interprofessional day of strikes and demonstrations”.

 

France | Railway, bus, and tram workers to take strike action on October 18
On October 18, railway, bus, and tram workers are scheduled to take strike action. The strike is being organized by multiple unions, as part of a “national interprofessional strike for wages” and to protest the high cost of living.

On October 18, a strike will be held nationwide. The strike will be staged by teachers’ unions including SNETAA-FO, SNUEP-FSU, SE-UNSA, CGT Educ’action, SNALC, SUD Education, SNEP-FSU, and SNES-FSU against the vocational high school reform project.

Germany | Multiple demonstrations to be held in solidarity with Ukraine and to end dependence on fossil fuels on October 22
On October 22, several demonstrations will be held in solidarity with Ukraine and to end dependence on fossil fuels in Germany.

– In Berlin, a demonstration will start at Invalidenpark at 12 pm local time and will end at Platz des 18. März at 2:30 pm local time.

Germany | Bus strike in Schleswig-Holstein on October 18
On October 18, there will occur an Autokraft bus strike in Schleswig-Holstein. The strike is called by the Verdi Union over pay – Verdi union demands an increase in workers’ pay and contribution to the solidarity fund for the workforce. School transportation as well as the airport Kielius bus routes are not affected. Passengers are advised to check timetables before travel.

 

Germany | Teachers, social workers and school psychologists to go on strike for smaller classes in Berlin on October 18
On October 18, a warning strike will be held in Berlin. The strike will be staged by teachers, social workers, and school psychologists supported by the GEW union for smaller classes. A demonstration will also be held starting at Dorothea-Schlegel-Platz at 10 am local time and will end at Rotes Rathaus at 12 pm.

 

Germany | Eurowings’ pilots to embark in 3-day strike, starting October 17
On October 17, Eurowings’ pilots will embark in a 3-day strike. The action was announced by the Vereinigung Cockpit union after a failed negotiation.

 

 

Hungary | Students to hold protests in solidarity with teachers in Budapest, on October 23
On October 23, a protest will be held in Budapest. Students will stage the protest in solidarity with teachers who are demanding an increase in wages, reduced workload, and re-establishment of the right to protest. The demonstration will start at Széchenyi István Square at 4 pm local time.

 

Hungary | Kindergartens go on a strike over low wages in Budapest, on October 21
On October 21, kindergartens will go on strike in Budapest. The strike will be staged demanding an increase in salaries and its adjustment to the current minimum wages. 400 kindergarten employees in the 15th district of Budapest will participate in the strike.

 

Italy | Rally against work-related deaths to be held in Rome, Lazio on October 22
On October 22, a rally will be held in Rome, Lazio. The rally will be staged at Piazza Santi Apostoli by CGIL, CISL, and UIL unions to demand more work safety after several work-related deaths.

On October 22, a demonstration will be held in Cagliari, Sardinia. The demonstration will be staged by CGIL, CISL, and UIL unions in support of Sardinian health care and against the failed policies of the Solinas junta. The demonstration will take place at Piazza del Carmine.

 

Italy | Demonstrations against the war in Ukraine to be held nationwide from October 21 to 23
From October 21 to 23, demonstrations will be held nationwide. The demonstrations will be staged by Europe For Peace against the war in Ukraine. The exact locations of the protests have not been announced yet.

 

Italy | National Flight Assistance Company staff to go on 12-hour national strike on October 21
On October 21, National Flight Assistance Company (ENAV) staff will go on a 12-hour national strike. It will occur from 8 am to 8 pm local time. The strike was called by the Ugl Ta union.

 

Italy | Protest against energy prices to be held in Agrigento, Sicily on October 17
On October 17, a protest against energy prices will be held in Agrigento, Sicily. The protest will start at 10 am in 1 Piazzale Vittorio Emanuele. The protest was organised by CNA, Confesercenti, Sicindustria, Legacoop, Confcooperative, Confagricoltura, CIA, Unione Nazionale Consumatori, Cittadinanza Attiva and Adiconsum.

 

Italy | Trenitalia Tper workers to go on strike in the region of Emilia Romagna from October 16 to 17
From October 16 to 17, a strike will be held in the region of Emilia Romagna. The strike will be staged by Trenitalia Tper workers. The strike will start on October 16 at 3:31 am and will end on October 17 at 2:30 am local time. Cancellations and changes will be expected for trains in the Emilia Romagna region and neighbouring regions.

 

Lithuania | Lithuanian Family Movement to hold an anti-government protest in Vilnius, on October 22
On October 22, the Lithuanian Family Movement will organise an anti-government protest in Vilnius. The rally will take place at Vilnius Cathedral Square from 1 pm local time. The Movement previously organised protests against LGBT rights and anti-vax protests. Thousands are expected to participate.

 

Montenegro | Firefighters expected to protest in Podgorica, on October 17
On October 17, firefighters are expected to protest in Podgorica. The protest will be staged over salary disputes and a poor legislative framework regarding fire rescue services if the government fails to meet their demands. The demonstration will be organised in front of the Government of Montenegro in Podgorica.

 

Norway | Over 1000 kindergarten employees to strike from October 17
On October 17, 1007 kindergarten employees will go on strike. The strike is called by the Education Confederation and Delta over workers’ pensions. 112 kindergartens will be affected by the strike action, in Oslo, Østfold, Trøndelag, and Vestlandet.

 

Portugal | Metro Transportes do Sul workers to go on strike in in Almada and Seixal on October 19 and 20
On October 19 and 20, a strike will be held in Almada and Seixal, Lisbon. The strike will be staged by Metro Transportes do Sul workers supported by SMAQ for the opening of negotiations, wage increases, career advancement, and better maintenance of equipment. The strike will take place from October 19 at 12 am to October 20 at 12 am.

 

Portugal | STCP workers to hold partial strike from June 20 until October 31 in Porto
From June 20 until October 31, the workers of the public transport company, Sociedade de Transportes Colectivos do Porto (STCP), will hold a partial strike. The strike has been organised to demand an increase in salary.

 

Romania | Protest marches for women’s safety to be held in several cities on October 23
On October 23, protest marches for women’s safety will be held in several cities. The organisation ‘Together for Women’s Safety’ will lead marches in Bucharest, Cluj, Brasov, Timisoara, Sibiu, Iasi, Giurgiu, Mizil, and Valea Seaca.

 

Romania | Trade Unions’ national mobilization to be held in Bucharest on October 21
On October 21, a Trade Unions’ national mobilization will be held in Bucharest. The demonstration is staged against living costs and energy prices. The protest will start in Cotroceni Palace at 11:30 am local time.

 

Russia | Closure of airports in the south and central parts of the country extended until October 22
Until October 22, the Federal Air Transport Agency Rosaviatsia announced the extension of the ban on flights in 11 airports in central and southern Russia. The affected airports are:

– Anapa International Airport (AAQ).
– Belgorod International Airport (EGO).
– Bryansk International Airport (BZK).
– Voronezh International Airport (VOZ).
– Gelendzhik Airport (GDZ).

Slovenia | Doctors and dentists to go on strike from October 19
On October 19, doctors and dentists will go on a general strike. The strike is being staged in demand of the exclusion of health workers from the uniform pay system in the public sector and the creation of a separate payment system for medical professions.

 

Switzerland | SWISS airline pilots to go on strike nationwide on October 17
On October 17, a strike will be held nationwide. The strike will be staged by SWISS airline pilots for a wage increase and better working conditions.

 

United Kingdom | Offshore drilling and maintenance workers to stage series of 48-hour strikes from October 20 to December 16
From October 20 to December 16, offshore drilling and maintenance workers will stage a series of 48-hour strikes. Strikes have been planned by Unite for the following dates:

– October 20 – 21
– November 3 – 4
– November 17 – 18
– December 15 – 16

Numerous platforms will be affected, such as BP Clair and Clair Ridge platforms, and Equinor’s Mariner platform. The strikes have been launched due to pay disputes. Unite has warned that action could evolve to an all-out strike if demands are not met.

 

United Kingdom | Mass lobby of MPs to take place in London, England on October 19
On October 19, a mass lobby of MPs will take place in London, England. The gathering will take place at the Palace of Westminster between 11 am local time and 3 pm. Workers will address their MPs on the cost-of-living crisis.

 

United Kingdom | Rally against the cost-of-living crisis to be held in London, England on October 19
On October 19, a rally against the cost-of-living crisis will be held in London, England. The demonstration will take place at Westminster Hall at 11 am local time.

 

United Kingdom | West Midlands Metro workers to go on strike for 52 days between October 15, 2022 and January 5, 2023
Between October 2022 and January 2023, West Midlands Metro workers will go on strike for 52 days. The strikes will cause disruptions throughout Birmingham and the Black Country. They will take place on the following dates:

– October 15, 19, 20, 22, 24, 26, 29, 31
– November 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 29, 30

The strikes have been launched due to wage disputes.

 

United Kingdom | Unison-associated staff at Brighton University to go on strike on October 13, 14, and 17
On October 13, 14, and 17, Brighton University staff associated with the Unison union will go on strike. The strikes are due to pay disputes.

From October 11 to 18, the Al-Fangary bridge will be closed at night, due to repair and maintenance work, in Cairo. The bridge will remain closed at the beginning of Salah Salem Street between 10 pm and 6 am local time.

On October 20, the Lebanese Parliament will hold a session to elect a president. The parliamentary session will start at 11:00 am local time. The election session was called by President Speaker Nabih Berri following the failure of the parliament to elect a successor to the incumbent President Michel Aoun on September 29. The session was supposed to be held on October 13 but was postponed to October 20.
