Africa

 

Australia – Malaysia – Mauritius | Direct flights Mauritius-Perth and Mauritius-Kuala Lumpur from October 31
On October 31, Air Mauritius will resume direct flights between Mauritius and Perth. Air Mauritius will also operate a direct flight from Mauritius to Kuala Lumpur. 2 weekly flights are scheduled to these destinations to give a boost to tourist numbers.

 

Benin | SBEE electrical workers to stage nationwide and protest on November 2
On November 2, a sit-in protest will be held at SBEE sites nationwide. The protest will be staged by employees of the Societe Beninoise d’Energie Electrique (SBEE), supported by a coalition of unions, to protest poor working conditions, staff shortages, and reforms proposed by the MHI group. Société Béninoise d’Énergie Électrique (SBEE) is the national utility primarily responsible for the distribution and commercialization of energy throughout the country.  The number of employees participating in the protest has yet to be determined, related power disruptions are a possibility.

 

Burkina Faso – France | French Embassy to resume visa application services in Ouagadougou, Kadiogo from November 2
From November 2, the French Embassy in Ouagadougou will resume visa application services through the service provider Capago. Visa applications through the embassy for other countries in the Schengen area remain suspended.

 

China – Tanzania | Tanzanian president to make a state visit to China from November 2 to 4
From November 2 to 4, the Tanzanian President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, will make a state visit to China. The visit was confirmed by a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson on October 27.

 

Equatorial Guinea | Borders to be closed for elections from October 31 to November 20
Between October 31 and November 20, borders will be closed ahead of the presidential, legislative and municipal elections. The border closing is in preparation for potentially violent protests.

 

Ghana | Teachers’ unions threaten to go on strike on November 4
On November 4, 4 teachers’ unions are planning to go on strike. The strike action is being organised to protest against the appointment of the new Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES).

 

Kenya | Pilots association to go on strike from November 1-14
From November 1-14, the Kenya Airline Pilots Association (KALPA) will go on strike. The pilots association has listed its demands as:

– Withdrawal of the Staff Provident Fund.
– Victimisation and Harassment of Union Officials and KALPA members at large.
– Non-Adherence to regulations, the CBA and Signed Agreements (MOA’s).
– Leadership and Governance issues at Kenya Airways Plc.

 

Nigeria | Commercial drivers to hold protest and strike on October 31 in Lagos, threaten to hold 7-day strike
On October 31, commercial drivers, under the Joint Drivers Welfare Association of Nigeria (JDWAN) union, are planning to hold a protest and strike in Lagos. The protest will be staged at 8 am local time at the Alausa Secretariat. The drivers have also threatened to go on a 7-day strike and hold protests until November 6. The drivers are organising the strike and protest action against the alleged extortion and harassment of drivers at bus stops, garages, and parking spaces in Lagos.

 

South Africa | Commuters protest, against new ticketing system, at bus stations in Dobsonville, Soweto, Gauteng
On October 31, it was reported that a protest, against the new ticketing system, is being staged by commuters at bus stations in Dobsonville, Soweto, Gauteng. The bus services have been disrupted as a result of the protest.

 

South Africa | Public Servants Association to strike in Johannesburg on November 3
On November 3, the Public Servants Association will go on strike in Johannesburg, Gauteng. The union gave the notice to strike after rejecting a 3% wage increase offer from the government.

 

Sudan | Workers strike lifted in North Darfur until November 5
From October 24 to November 5, the Higher Committee for Claiming Workers’ Benefits decided to temporarily lift the worker’s strike in North Darfur. The Committee says this gives the state government opportunities to fulfil all its promises and pay workers’ arrears.

 


 

Americas

 

Argentina | Unionized teachers to take strike action in Buenos Aires from October 31
On October 31, unionized teachers will take strike action in Buenos Aires to protest the reduction in the education budget and to demand job security. The strike is organized by the Union of Education Workers.

 

Canada – United States | WestJet to launch direct flight between Winnipeg (YWG) and Los Angeles (LAX) from October 31
On October 31, WestJet will launch a direct flight between Winnipeg (YWG) and Los Angeles (LAX). Flights will be available three times a week all year.

 

Colombia | Teachers union to go on strike on November 1 and 2 in Santander
On November 1 and 2, the teachers union will go on strike in Santander. The strike is being organised to demand better medical service provision for the teachers.

 

Guadeloupe (France) – United States | Jet Blue to resume flights between Pointe-à-Pitre (PTP) and New York (JFK)
On November 5, Jet Blue will resume flights between Pointe-à-Pitre International Airport (PTP) and John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). Flights will be scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

 

United States | City Colleges of Chicago faculty and staff to strike in Chicago, Illinois on November 2
On November 2, City Colleges of Chicago faculty and staff plan to strike in Chicago, Illinois. The threatened strike relates to contract negotiations continuing over pay and class sizes. The Cook County College Teachers Union, which announced the strike, represents 1,500 faculty and professionals within the City Colleges.

 

Venezuela – Spain | Conviasa to open Caracas (CCS)-Madrid (MAD) route, starting November 1
On November 1, The Venezuelan Consortium of Aeronautical Industries and Air Services (Conviasa) announced that they will open a new route to connect Caracas (CCS) and Madrid (MAD). The flight will depart every Wednesday.

On October 31, Air Mauritius will resume direct flights between Mauritius and Perth. Air Mauritius will also operate a direct flight from Mauritius to Kuala Lumpur. 2 weekly flights are scheduled to these destinations to give a boost to tourist numbers.

 

Bangladesh | Bus owners to go on strike in Barisal on November 4-5
On November 4-5, Barisal District Bus Owners Association will go on strike. The association announced it will stop all long-distance and domestic bus services from the central Nathullabad bus terminal of Barisal. This is in response to the Bangladeshi National Party rally that will be held in Barisal on November 5.

 

China | COVID-19 restrictions to be eased in Hong Kong from November 3
From November 3, COVID-19 restrictions will be eased in Hong Kong on the opening hours of eateries, pubs and various other premises. People will also be allowed to remove their masks while attending at events and catering premises.

 

China | Military exercise to be held in Hong Kong from November 1 to 30
From November 1 to 30, a military exercise is scheduled to take place in Da Ling Range and Tsing Shan Range, Hong Kong. The drill will take place from November 1 to 30 (except for November 6) daily from 08.00 am to 09.00 pm local time.

 

China | Incoming travellers who test positive for COVID-19 to remain in quarantine hotels instead of being transferred to isolation facilities from November 1 in Hong Kong
From November 1, incoming travellers who test positive for COVID-19 will be allowed to remain in designated quarantine hotels instead of being transferred to isolation facilities in Hong Kong. The announcement was made in a statement released by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government on September 13.

 

China | Major casino resort placed under lockdown, all residents across Macau mandated to take daily antigen tests until November 1
From October 30 until November 1, a major casino resort, the MGM Cotai, has been placed under complete lockdown and all residents across Macau have been mandated to take daily rapid antigen tests. The COVID-19 restrictions were imposed after at least 3 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were detected.

 

China | Military exercise to be held in the Bohai Sea from October 29 to November 27
From October 29 to November 27, a Chinese military exercise is scheduled to take place in the Bohai Sea.

 

China | Military exercise to be held in the northern part of the Yellow Sea from October 27 to November 15
From October 27 to November 15, a military exercise is scheduled to take place in the northern part of the Yellow Sea. The exercise will take place daily from 07.00 am to 05.00 pm local time.

 

China – Germany | German Chancellor scheduled to visit China on November 3 and 4
On November 3 and 4, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is scheduled to visit China. The parties will discuss business interests, China’s role in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and human rights violations. This will be the first visit of Olaf Scholz to China as German Chancellor since taking office in December 2021.

 

China – Pakistan | Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to visit China on November 1-2
On November 1-2, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will visit China. This was at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang. PM Sharif will be the head of a high-level delegation, including Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

 

China – Tanzania | Tanzanian president to make a state visit to China from November 2 to 4
From November 2 to 4, the Tanzanian President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, will make a state visit to China. The visit was confirmed by a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson on October 27.

 

China – Vietnam | Chief of Vietnam’s Communist Party to visit Beijing from October 30 to November 2
From October 30 to November 2, Vietnam’s Communist Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will visit Beijing on the invitation of President Xi Jinping. No further details were shared about the visit.

 

India – France | Indian Air Force and French Air and Space Force to conduct joint military exercise in Jodhpur, Rajasthan
Between October 26 and November 12, the Indian Air Force and French Air and Space Force will conduct a joint military exercise in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The joint exercise will take place at Air Force Station Jodhpur (JDH).

 

India – Azerbaijan | Direct flights from Mumbai (BOM) to Baku (BAK) to start on November
From November, direct flights will start from Mumbai (BOM) to Baku (BAK). Azerbaijan Airlines will operate twice a week.

 

India | VCK party announce demonstration against central government in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on November 1
On November 1, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi party announced a demonstration against the central government in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The protest is being held to condemn the shooting of Tamil fishermen, and against the central government for allegedly “suppressing linguistic sentiments and taking away state rights.”

 

India | Police issue prohibitory orders due to potential law and order disturbances in Mumbai from November 1-15
From November 1-15, Police will issue prohibitory orders due to potential law and order disturbances in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Under the orders, no more than 5 persons can gather at a place, no processions are allowed, the bursting of fireworks, use of loudspeakers and music bands in a procession is not allowed. Wedding ceremonies and funerals are exempted.

 

Japan – South Korea | South Korean military to attend Japan’s MSDF maritime naval review
On November 6, the South Korean military is scheduled to attend Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Force (MSDF) Maritime naval review. It will be the first time in seven years since 2015 that South Korea will participate in the Maritime Self-Defense Force’s fleet review.

 

Japan – United Arab Emirates | Visa exemption for UAE nationals to enter Japan, starting November 1
On October 14, the UAE Embassy in Tokyo announced UAE citizens are exempted from visa requirements to enter Japan starting from November 1, 2022, provided that the duration of each visit does not exceed 30 days.

 

Malaysia | Voting for 15th General Election to be held on November 19
On November 19, the voting for the 15th General Election will be held in Malaysia. According to the announcement made by the Election Commission (EC), on October 20, the date for filing nominations has been set as November 5 and early voting will be held on November 15.

 

Philippines | e-Arrival card to be implemented for airline passengers from November 1
From November 1, the Philippines will require all inbound travelers to fill out an e-Arrival Card within 72 hours prior to their departure from their country of origin. The e-Arrival Card is free for all travelers and may be temporarily accessed through the official website onehealthpass.com.ph pending the launch of the new platform and website and its shift to the official government domain.

 

Philippines | Several roads to close in Manila due to Undas from October 31 to November 2
From October 31 to November 2, several roads will be closed and rerouted in Manila due to Undas celebrations.

The following list of roads will be closed from 10 pm local time on October 31:

– Aurora Boulevard (Dimasalang Road to Rizal Avenue)
– Dimasalang Road (Makiling to Blumentritt Road)
– P. Guevarra Street (Cavite Street to Pampanga Street)
– Blumentritt Road (A. Bonifacio Avenue to P. Guevarra Street)
– Retiro (Dimasalang to Blumentritt Extension)
– Leonor Rivera (Cavite Street to Aurora Boulevard)

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority(MMDA) advised the following for motorists:

– Vehicles coming from Dimasalang Road to go through Blumentritt will have to go through Rizal Avenue.
– Vehicles going to the La Loma and Chinese cemeteries are advised to take the stretch of Rizal Avenue and J. Abad Santos Avenue.
– Heavier trucks coming from A.H.Lacson to go through Dimasalang Road should go through Yuseco Street.”

 

Philippines | Negros Oriental under Code White Alert until November 3
From October 21 to November 3, Negros Oriental will be under Code White Alert due to the anticipated influx of people coming from many areas to attend the Buglasan festivities, as well as those who want to visit their dead relatives during the ‘kalag-kalag’ (Undas) observance. The region is currently experiencing Covid-19, dengue, and typhoid fever infections. Under Code White, surveillance will be strengthened at points of entry and exit; laboratory and referral hospitals will be prepared; diseases from outside of the country will be monitored; essential medicines and personal protective equipment will be prepared; protocols for case detection, management, and referral based on previous outbreaks will be observed; and risk communication systems will be developed, among others.

 

South Korea | US-South Korean military exercise to held from October 31 to November 4
From October 31 to November 4, a US-South Korean joint military exercise will be held in South Korean airspace. The South Korean Air Force will dispatch 140 aircraft such as F-35A, F-15K and KF-16. The US Air Force will deploy around 100 aircraft, including F-35B and F-16. Australia’s airforce is also scheduled to join the training with the deployment of a refuelling tanker.

 

South Korea | Visitors from 8 countries to be allowed to enter South Korea without a visa from November 1
From November 1, South Korea will fully restore visa-free entry privileges for travellers from 8 countries and territories. The concerned countries are Taiwan, Japan, Macau, Solomon Islands, Kiribati, Micronesia, Samoa, and Tonga.

 

Sri Lanka | Air France and KLM to resume flights to Colombo from November 4
From November 4, Air France and KLM will resume flights to Colombo. The airlines will operate four flights a week to the country. It comes after these and other airlines suspended flights to Sri Lanka due to COVID-19 and the domestic economic crisis.

 

Sri Lanka | Opposition political parties, trade unions, students groups planning to hold protest march in Colombo on November 2
On November 2, the opposition political parties, various trade unions, students groups, and other civic society groups are planning to hold a protest march, against the government, in Colombo. The march will begin from the Elphinstone Theatre in Colombo 10 at 3 pm local time.

 

Taiwan | Heavy rainfall alerts issued in several parts of the country
On October 31 and November 1, heavy rainfall alerts were issued in several parts of the country. The warning has been issued for Taipei, Keelung City, New Taipei City, Hualien County, Taitung County, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, and Taichung City from October 31 at 08.50 am to November 1 in the morning local time.

Albania | Teachers to hold a national protest in Tirana, on October 31
On October 31, teachers will hold a national protest in Tirana. The protest is being staged demanding wage increases, better working conditions, increased funding for scientific research, and budget transparency. The demonstration is scheduled to take place in front of the Polytechnic University from 11 am local time.

 

Armenia – Azerbaijan – Russia | President Vladimir Putin to host talks between Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents in Sochi on October 31
On October 31, Russian President Vladimir Putin will host Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Sochi, Krasnodar Krai. The reason for the meeting will be a tripartite negotiation between Russia and the 2 countries.

 

Austria | Last Generation climate activists block roads in Vienna
On October 31, protests were reported in Vienna. The protests are being staged by Last Generation climate activists against fossil fuels. The activists blockaded near the Secession, Friedrichstrasse, Getreidemarkt, and Rechte Wienzeile at around 8:15 am local time.

 

Austria – Slovakia | Austria extends temporary border controls with Slovakia until November 12
On October 28, it was announced that Austria will extend temporary border controls with Slovakia until November 12. The decision was made following a decrease in illegal immigration to Czechia due to the re-establishment of border checkpoints. Austrian authorities have detained 12 smugglers so far during checks on the border with Slovakia.

 

Azerbaijan – India | Direct flights from Mumbai (BOM) to Baku (BAK) to start on November
From November, direct flights will start from Mumbai (BOM) to Baku (BAK). Azerbaijan Airlines will operate twice a week.

 

Belgium | Zelzate bridge to be closed to all traffic due to maintenance work, October 30 -November 5
From October 30 – November 5, Zelzate bridge over the Ghent-Terneuzen sea canal to be closed to all traffic due to maintenance work. The closure will start on October 30 at 8 pm and will last until November 5 at 5 am local time. A detour for road traffic is in effect along the Zelzate tunnel on the E34 highway.

 

Belgium | Train disruptions due to maintenance work expected between Ottignies and Louvain-la-Neuve, and between Ottignies and Gembloux, Wallonia
From October 29 to November 13, rail line disruptions due to maintenance work will be expected between Ottignies and Louvain-la-Neuve, and between Ottignies and Gembloux, Wallonia. Rail traffic will be disrupted between Ottignies and Gembloux until November 6 and between Ottignies and Louvain-la-Neuve until November 13 in both directions.

 

Belgium – Romania | HiSky to launch direct flight services between Bucharest and Brussels from November 4
On November 4, HiSky will launch direct flight services between Bucharest and Brussels. According to the airline, it will initially operate flights twice a week on Monday and Friday; and from November 30, will operate flights thrice a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

 

Bosnia and Herzegovina | Wizz Air to close its base at Sarajevo International Airport (SJJ) on November 1
On November 1, Wizz Air will close its base at Sarajevo International Airport (SJJ). The decision was made due to the challenging macroeconomic environment and shortages in the supply chain. The flight routes to Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) and London Luton Airport (LTN) will continue to operate after the base closure.

 

Bosnia and Herzegovina – United Kingdom | Joint military exercise planned near Banja Luka, Republika Srpska from October 29 to November 3
From October 29 to November 3, a joint military exercise is expected to take place near Banja Luka, Republika Srpska. The exercise will take place at the Bosnia and Herzegovina Armed Forces Combat Training Center in Manjaca with UK military personnel. The exercise is a routine NATO drill.

 

Croatia | Trade unionists to stage protests nationwide on November 8 and 15
On November 8 and 15, trade unionists will stage protests nationwide. The demonstrations are being staged demanding that base wages be increased for government employees. Protests will be held on November 8 nationwide in front of public services institutions and on November 15 a large joint protest will be organised in Zagreb.

 

Denmark | General elections to be held on November 1
On November 1, Denmark will hold its general elections. PM Mette Frederiksen has been in office since 2019 and has called early elections.

 

France | Yellow Vests protest to be held in Paris, Ile-de-France on November 2
On November 2, a Yellow Vests protest will be held in Paris, Ile-de-France. The protest is scheduled between 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm local time in Place Edouard Herriot.

 

France | Demonstration in support of the right to die with dignity to be held in Marseille, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur on November 1
On November 1, a demonstration will take place in Marseille, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. The demonstration will be staged by ADMD association in support of the right to die with dignity. The demonstration will take place at Ombrière du Vieux-Port at 3 pm local time.

 

France | Healthcare workers in the pediatric and emergency departments to go on strike across Bouches-du-Rhone, Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur
On October 31, healthcare workers in the pediatric and emergency departments will go on an indefinite strike across Bouches-du-Rhone, Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur. The strike is being organised to demand additional resources, the hiring of more staff, and an immediate increase in wages.

 

France | Traffic disruptions expected in Paris, Ile-de-France, October 28-November 1
From October 28-November 1, traffic disruptions are expected in Paris, Ile-de-France due to All Saints weekend:

On October 28 traffic is classified as ‘red’ in the direction of departures, according to the Bison Futé traffic warning system.
On October 29, it is classified as orange in the direction of departures
On November 1, it is classified orange in the direction of returns

The A13, A10 and A6 motorways, the ring road and the A86 are expected to face disruptions.

 

France | Rail traffic to be disrupted in Paris from October 29 to November 3
From October 29 to November 3, rail traffic will be disrupted by construction in Paris. The scheduled maintenance will affect metro lines 6 and 14, as well as RER line C. Stations affected include Trocadéro, Charles de Gaulle – Etoile, Invalides, and Paris Austerlitz.

 

France | TotalEnergies refinery strike renewed in Gonfreville-l’Orcher, Normandy until November 2
From October 27 to November 2, the TotalEnergies refinery strike was renewed in Gonfreville-l’Orcher, Normandy. The strike is being staged by refinery workers for a wage increase.

 

Germany | Foreign ministers of G7 countries to meet in Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia on November 3 and 4
On November 3 and 4, Foreign ministers of G7 countries will meet in Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia. The topic of the meeting will be current issues and strategic challenges in foreign and security policy, such as the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and the consequences for Europe, transatlantic cooperation, and the international order.

 

Germany | Fridays for Future demonstration to be held in Munich, Bavaria on November 4
On November 4, a demonstration will be held in Munich, Bavaria. The demonstration will be staged by Fridays for Future in support of Lützerath town and will take place at Marienplatz at 2 pm local time.

 

Germany | Extinction Rebellion demonstration against human rights violations in Egypt to be held in Berlin on November 4
On November 4, a demonstration will be held in Berlin. The demonstration will be staged by Extinction Rebellion climate activists to denounce the human rights violations in Egypt on the occasion of COP27. The demonstration will start at Platz vor dem Neuen Tor at 12 pm and will end at the Egypt Embassy at 3 pm local time.

 

Italy | Demonstration for peace to be held in Rome, Lazio on November 5
On November 5, a demonstration will be held in Rome, Lazio. The demonstration will be staged by the M5S party for peace in Ukraine, a guarantee of minimum wage and defending the citizenship income and the Constitution. The demonstration will take place at Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II at 2 pm local time.

 

Italy | “No Pago” protest to be held in Napoli, Campania on November 5
On November 5, a “No Pago” protest will be held in Napoli, Campania. The protest is staged against the gas and energy prices. Details about the protest are forthcoming.

 

Italy | Whirlpool workers to go on a strike in Cassinetta, Campania on November 2-3
On November 2-3, Whirlpool workers will go on a strike in Cassinetta, Campania. The strike was organised by FIM, FIOM and UILM.

 

Lithuania | Road section to be closed from November 3 to 7, due to road construction work, in Panevezys City
From November 3 to 7, a road section will be closed, due to road construction work, in Panevezys City. The section of Senamiestios Street to the Vaivadai side will be closed due to the construction of a roundabout.

 

Malta – Serbia | Air Serbia to resume direct flights to Malta International Airport (MLA) from October 31
From October 31, Air Serbia will resume direct flights to Malta International Airport (MLA). The flights will operate from Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport (BEG) twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays.

 

Netherlands | Extinction Rebellion protest to be held at Amsterdam-Schiphol airport (AMS) on November 5
On November 5, a protest will be held at Amsterdam-Schiphol airport (AMS). The protest will be staged by Extinction Rebellion and Greenpeace against damage to climate, nature, and health caused by the airport.

 

Norway – United States | Demonstration in support of Tigrayan people planned at the U.S. embassy in Oslo, on November 4
On November 4, a demonstration in support of the Tigrayan people is planned at the U.S. embassy in Oslo. The protest will begin at 2:40 PM local time and last until 4:00 PM.

 

Poland – United Kingdom | WizzAir to launch flights to Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) from 5 Polish airports from October 31
From October 31, WizzAir will launch flights to Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) from 5 Polish airports. The decision was made following the closure of the Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA) due to bancrupcy. The new flights will operate on the following routes:

– Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport (GDN) – Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA), on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays
– Kraków John Paul II International Airport (KRK) – Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA), on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays
