Angola | Teacher’s union calls for series of nationwide strikes through November 2022 – January 2023
On October 21, the Angolan Teacher’s Syndicate (SINPROF) called for a series of nationwide strikes. SINPROF announced 3 strike periods before the end of January 2023:

– November 23 – November 30, 2022
– December 6 – December 16, 2022
– January 3 – January 31, 2023

These strike actions are being called for to demand tax rebates, end the privatization of public schools, and increase public education funding. SINPROF previously suspended strikes over these issues in April 2021 and will resume if their demands are not met.

 

Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) | Demonstration against high cost of living to be held on November 25
On November 25, a demonstration against the high cost of living is scheduled to be held. The demonstration is organized by Urgences Ivoiriennes (URI), which comprises 20 different organizations.

 

Democratic Republic of Congo – Kenya | Peace talks regarding the conflict in eastern DRC to begin in Nairobi on November 21
On November 21, peace talks on the conflict in eastern DRC will begin in Nairobi. It is not known how long the peace talks will last. The conflict is regarding the recent offensive by the M23 rebels.

 

Equatorial Guinea | Country’s airspace to be closed on November 20-21 due to national elections
On November 20 and 21, Equatorial Guinea’s airspace will be closed as voting will get underway for the presidential, legislative, and municipal elections. According to an announcement made by the government, the airspace will remain closed from 12 am (local time) on November 20 until 6 am on November 21.

 

Israel – Nigeria | Air Peace planning to launch direct flights from Lagos (LOS) to Tel Aviv (TLV) by end of November
On October 16, it was reported that Nigerian airline Air Peace is planning to launch direct flights from Lagos (LOS) to Tel Aviv (TLV) by the end of November. The announcement was made by the chief executive officer of Air Peace, Allen Onyema.

 

South Africa | 7 Unions in the public service sector to go on a nationwide strike on November 22
On November 22, 7 unions in the public service sector will go on a nationwide strike. The strike will include a march to the offices of the National Treasury in Pretoria and other protests in all provinces. It will disrupt service at offices, hospitals, and courts. The protest is against the government’s decision to unilaterally implement a 3% baseline increase in public wages.

 

South Africa | Coal railway line to be fully operational by November 21 following train derailment in KwaZulu-Natal
On November 21, Transnet Freight Rail’s northern corridor – the main coal railway line – is expected to become fully operational. The railway line had been disrupted after a train was derailed on November 8 in Ulundi, KwaZulu-Natal.

 

South Africa | Santaco and taxi associations to go on strike in Western Cape on November 21 – 22
On November 21 and 22, Santaco and taxi associations will go on a strike in Western Cape. The strike is against the suspension of the Blue Dot taxi programme.

 

Sudan | State of emergency declared following tribal clashes in Central Darfur
From November 13 to December 13, a state of emergency was declared following tribal clashes in Central Darfur. This was triggered by tribal conflicts, which left at least 24 people dead. The declaration has banned assembly and gatherings until the state of emergency is revoked.

 

Sudan | Anti-coup protests to be staged nationwide
On November 21, 25 and 30, the Resistance Committees announced that anti-coup protests will be staged nationwide. It has not been revealed what the route of the processions will be or what time they will last.

 


 

Americas

 

Argentina | Demonstration against low wages scheduled in Buenos Aires, November 22
On November 22, a demonstration is scheduled in Buenos Aires. The demonstration is organized by Unidad Piquetera against rising inflation and low wages. It is scheduled for 1:00 p.m local time at the Ministry of Labor, Employment, and Social Security.

 

Canada | Education workers to stage new strike in Ontario on November 21
On November 21, education workers will reportedly stage a strike in Ontario. The education workers union has been pushing for better working conditions and better salaries. CUPE Ontario represents 55,000 education workers and the strike will be held unless a deal is reached.

 

Chile | Camioneros del Norte to stage a nationwide strike on November 21
On November 21, the Confederación Gremial de Transportistas Fuerza del Norte will suspend their cargo transportation activities from 12 am local time. The measure is taken due to an increase in fuel prices, assaults, robberies, and looting of cargo transported both in cities and on the road.

 

Chile | Workers to stage strike at the Escondida Copper Mine, Antofagasta, on November 21 and 23
On November 21 and 23, workers will stage a strike at the Escondida Copper Mine, Antofagasta. The strike is motivated by demands to improve the safety measure at the mine.

 

Mexico | President calls for pro-electoral reform march in Mexico City on November 27
On November 27, the President called for a pro-electoral reform march in Mexico City. The demonstration will reportedly begin at 9 am local time at the Angel of Independence from where it will march to the Zócalo. The march is allegedly not to “show muscle” but rather to gauge public opinion following the anti-reform marches on November 13.

 

Mexico | Governor calls for protest in favor of Fourth Transformation in Puebla on November 27
On November 27, a march has been called by Governor Barbosa in favor of the Fourth Transformation in Puebla, Puebla. The march will reportedly take place from El Gallito Clock Tower to the Zócalo at 11 am local time. The demonstration will be a counter-protest to the November 13 demonstrations against the proposed electoral reform.

 

Peru | Public transport unions threaten to go on strike in Lima and Callao on November 22
On November 22, public transport unions threatened to go on strike in Lima and Callao. The strike is against the lack of action from the Urban Transport Authority (ATU) to meet their economic demands in relation to vehicle renewal.

 

Philippines – United States | Vice President of the United States to visit the Philippines from November 20 to 22
From November 20 to 22, the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, will visit the Philippines. She will meet with the President of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte. Strengthening the countries’ security alliance and economic relationship, as well as the countries’ commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the South China Sea, will be discussed. She will also visit Palawan on November 22, which has been subject to Chinese territorial claims. She will be the highest-ranking American official to visit Palawan.

Bangladesh | Air Astra to operate commercial flights from November 24
From November 24, Air Astra, a private airliner, announced plans to operate commercial flights. Air Astra will operate 3 flights from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC) to Cox’s Bazar International Airport (CXB). Air Astra will also operate 2 flights from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC) to Shah Amanat International Airport (CGP).

 

Bangladesh | Bangladesh Nationalist Party to hold rallies in 10 cities, from October 8 – December 10
From October 8- December 10, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party plans to hold rallies in 10 cities, to demand the release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia:

– November 26 in Comilla
– December 3 in Rajshahi
– December 10 in Dhaka

 

China | Inbound travelers to Hong Kong need to undergo 2 COVID-19 PCR tests from November 21
From November 21, international and Taiwanese arrivals to Hong Kong will need to undergo polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests on the 1st and 3rd days of arrival. Daily rapid tests (RATs) are still needed until the seventh day.

 

China | Military exercise to be held in Bohai Strait, Yellow Sea from November 20 to 27
From November 20 to 27, a military exercise is scheduled to take place in Bohai Strait, Yellow Sea. The exercise will take place from November 20 at 04.00 pm to November 27 at 04.00 pm local time.

 

China | Military exercise to be held in South Yellow Sea from November 16 to 23
From November 16 to 23, a live-fire military exercise is scheduled to take place in the South Yellow Sea. The exercise will take place from 06.00 am to 06.00 pm local time daily.

 

China | Military exercise to be held in Hong Kong from November 1 to 30
From November 1 to 30, a military exercise is scheduled to take place in Da Ling Range and Tsing Shan Range, Hong Kong. The drill will take place from November 1 to 30 (except for November 6) daily from 08.00 am to 09.00 pm local time.

 

China | Military exercise to be held in the Bohai Sea from October 29 to November 27
From October 29 to November 27, a Chinese military exercise is scheduled to take place in the Bohai Sea.

 

India | Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) to hold nationwide protest marches on November 26
On November 26, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), a coalition of 40 farmer’s unions, will hold nationwide protest marches. The SKM announced that farmers will march toward Raj Bhavans, the official residence of the state governors, in each state. The protests are against the central government’s alleged breach of assurance regarding the farmer’s demands.

 

India | Roadway workers to go on state-wide strike in Rajasthan on November 24
On November 24, roadway workers will go on a state-wide strike in Rajasthan. The action will be coordinated by the Rajasthan Roadways Employees Union (RREU) at an undefined time. The strike is meant to demand higher salaries.

 

India | Power sector workers to strike and rally on New Delhi on November 23
On November 23, Power sector workers will stage a rally and strike in New Delhi. The All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) made the announcement. The action will start at Ramlila Maidan territory and end at the Jantar Mantar observatory at an unspecified time. The strike is meant to protest new regulations to be introduced in the electricity sector.

 

India | Akasa air announces direct flights between Bengaluru and Pune from November 23
From November 23, Akasa air will conduct daily direct flights between Bengaluru and Pune. The flights will transit between Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) and Pune International Airport (PNQ).

 

India | IUML to hold protest across Kerala on November 21
On November 21, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) will hold a protest across multiple localities in Kerala state. Major demonstrations will likely occur in the Malappuram district and in Thiruvananthapuram city. The action is meant to protest rising food prices.

 

India | Rail traffic affected due to demolition of Carnac Bridge in Mumbai, Maharashtra, November 19-21
From November 19-21, rail traffic will be affected due to the demolition of the Carnac Bridge in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The disruption will affect local and long-distance trains from 11 pm local time on November 19 and to 2 am on November 21.

– On the Main line of the CR route (CSMT to Kasara/Khopoli), no trains will run between the CSMT and Byculla station till 4 pm on November 20
– On the Harbour line (CSMT-Goregaon/Panvel), no trains will run between CSMT and Vadala stations till 8 pm on November 20

Malaysia | Sabah sea curfew extended until November 21
On November 21, Sabah’s ongoing dusk-to-dawn sea curfew is projected to end after a 198th extension since it was first implemented on July 16, 2014. The curfew covers areas up to 3 nautical miles off Sandakan, Beluran, Kinabatangan, Lahad Datu, Kunak, Semporna, and Tawau. Residents in those areas are required to stay at home from 6pm to 6am, and outsiders are not allowed to enter curfew zones. The extension was motivated by a need to ensure terrorists or cross-border criminals did not intrude into Malaysian waters, as the country’s intelligence services reported recent attempts of kidnap-for-ransom groups and Abu Sayyaf to penetrate national waters.

 

Malaysia | Travel advisory issued for motorists using the North-South expressway from November 17 to 21
From November 17 to 21, PLUS Expressways Berhad issued a travel advisory for motorists using the North-South Expressway. The advisory aims to reduce traffic congestion which is expected to occur due to an expected increase of vehicles on the highway, in conjunction with the 15th General Election (GE15) which will be held on November 19.

– On November 20-21, motorists heading back to Kuala Lumpur from Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak(North), Johor, and other states are advised to use the highway before 10 am local time.
– Motorists should also expect to face longer travel times on the highway due to the increase in vehicles compared to normal days.

 

Pakistan – Saudi Arabia | Airblue launches direct flights between Lahore and Riyadh from November 21
From November 21, Airblue will conduct direct flights between Lahore and Riyadh. The flights will take place every Monday and Thursday between Allama Iqbal International Airport (LHE) and King Khalid International Airport (RUH).

Thailand | Heavy rain warning imposed for southern provinces and Bangkok until November 24
Until November 24, all southern provinces and Bangkok are to stay under a heavy rain alert. The warning was issued by the Thai Meteorological Department on November 18.

Finland | Finnair cabin crew to take strike action in Helsinki airport (HEL), November 20-21
On November 20-21, Finnair cabin crew are scheduled to take strike action in Helsinki airport (HEL). The strike is organized by the Transport Worker’s Union in Finland. It will begin at 3 pm local time on 20 November and end at 3 pm local time on 21 November. According to Finnair, the strike has “considerable impacts on Finnair operations” and several flights may be canceled.

United Kingdom | Aslef-associated workers at 12 operators to strike on November 26
On November 26, Aslef-associated workers at 12 operators will go on strike. The strike has been launched over a pay dispute.

 

United Kingdom | Unite-associated workers at food factory in Spalding, England to strike between November 25 and January 2
Between November 25 and January 2, United-associated workers at a food factory in Spalding, England will go on strike. The strike will involve over 700 workers at Bakkavor’s food manufacturing factory. It will affect own-brand food products at Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, and M&S. It has been launched over a pay dispute.

 

United Kingdom | Ambulance Service staff to take strike action across Scotland, November 25
On November 25, Ambulance Service staff will take strike action due to a pay dispute across Scotland. The strike is scheduled to begin at 12:01 am local time. The strike is led by around 1500 Unite union members, including paramedics, advanced practitioners, and administrative workers.

United Kingdom | Unite-associated Abellio bus drivers in London, England to strike for 10 days between November 22 and December 17
Between November 22 and December 17, Unite-associated Abellio bus drivers in London, England will strike for 10 days. Strikes will take place on the following dates:

– November: 22, 25, 26.
– December: 1, 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17.

The strikes have been launched due to a pay dispute.

 

United Kingdom | GMB-associated workers at oil refinery to strike in Fawley, England from November 21 to December 2
From November 21 to December 2, GMB-associated workers at an Exxon Mobil oil refinery in Fawley, England will go on strike. The strike could result in petrol shortages. It has been launched over a pay dispute.

 

United Kingdom | Unite-associated workers at Heathrow Airport (LHR) to strike for 3 days from November 18
From November 18, Dnata and Menzies workers belonging to Unite will strike at Heathrow Airport (LHR) for 3 days. The strike will last from the early hours of November 18 until the early hours of November 21, local time. It will lead to cancellations and disruptions at terminals 2, 3, and 4 in the run-up to the World Cup. It has been launched over a pay dispute.

 

United Kingdom | Unite-associated offshore Petrofac workers to strike for 4 days between November 16 and December 1
Between November 16 and December 1, Unite-associated offshore Petrofac workers will strike for 4 days. The first strike will last for 48 hours on November 16 and 17, and the second strike will also last for 48 hours between November 30 and December 1. Around 146 members will take part in the strikes. Several North Sea assets will be affected, including:

– Bleo Holm
– Claymore
– Clyde
– Fulmar
– Montrose
– Piper
– Saltire
– Tartan
– the Flotta oil terminal on Orkney

The strike has been launched over a pay dispute.

 

United Kingdom | Rail workers at Thames Valley Signal Centre to take strike action on November 19 and 21
On November 19 and 21, rail workers at Thames Valley Signal Centre, associated with the RMT Union, will take strike action. The GWR network fill face disruptions as a result. The dispute of the workers is with Network Rail.

Israel – Qatar | TUS Airways to launch 12 direct flights between Tel Aviv (TLV) and Doha (DIA) for the duration of the World Cup in Qatar, November 20 – December 18
Between November 20 and December 18, TUS Airways has announced 12 direct flights between Tel Aviv (TLV) and Doha (DIA) for the duration of the Football World Cup in Qatar. There will be 6 flights from Tel Aviv to Doha and 6 return flights. The first flight will commence on November 20. The specific dates of the other flights were not announced. The move is significant as Israel and Qatar have severed diplomatic ties.

 

Pakistan – Saudi Arabia | Airblue launches direct flights between Lahore and Riyadh from November 21
From November 21, Airblue will conduct direct flights between Lahore and Riyadh. The flights will take place every Monday and Thursday between Allama Iqbal International Airport (LHE) and King Khalid International Airport (RUH).

 

Qatar | Entry to Qatar restricted from November 1 to December 23
From November 1 to December 23, entry to Qatar will be restricted to only citizens, residents, Gulf Countries Council (GCC) citizens holding a Qatari identification card, approved humanitarian personnel, holders of work entry permits, personal visas, and World Cup Hayya cards. Visitor visas will be resumed on December 23.
