Africa – United States | 50 African delegations to attend US-Africa Leaders Summit held in Washington DC , Columbia District, on December 13-15
On December 13-15, 50 African delegations will attend the US-Africa Leaders Summit held in Washington DC, Columbia District. The summit will address the topics of economic cooperation, governance, human rights, health and food security, and the climate crisis.

 

Angola | Journalists to march against attacks in Luanda on December 17
On December 17, the Union of Angolan Journalists is expected to stage a march against attacks in Luanda, Luanda Province. The action will take place following several attacks against journalists and headquarter of the Union of Angolan Journalists.

 

Angola | Teacher’s union calls for series of nationwide strikes through November 2022 – January 2023
On October 21, the Angolan Teacher’s Syndicate (SINPROF) called for a series of nationwide strikes. SINPROF announced 3 strike periods before the end of January 2023:

– November 23 – November 30, 2022
– December 6 – December 16, 2022
– January 3 – January 31, 2023

These strike actions are being called for to demand tax rebates, end the privatization of public schools, and increase public education funding. SINPROF previously suspended strikes over these issues in April 2021 and will resume if their demands are not met.

 

Burkina Faso | Curfew to be extended by 90 days in the East from November 23
On November 23, the curfew throughout the regional territory will be extended by 90 days in the East. The curfew will now end on February 20 2023. The curfew runs from 12 am to 4 am local time.

 

Central African Republic | UN Security Council extends MINUSCA mandate until November 15, 2023
On November 14, the mandate of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) was renewed until November 15, 2023.

 

Democratic Republic of Congo | UNSC extends sanctions regime on DRC until July 2023
On June 30, the UN Security Council extended the sanctions regime on the Democratic Republic of Congo until July 1, 2023. The renewed sanctions include an arms embargo, asset freeze, and travel ban. The resolution also mandates a panel of experts monitoring sanctions until August 1, 2023.

 

Democratic Republic of Congo | UN Security Council extends MONUSCO mandate until December 20, 2022
On December 20, the United Nations Security Council extended the mandate of the United Nations Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) until December 20, 2022. The UNSC decided that MONUSCO’s troop ceiling will include 13,500 military personnel, 660 military observers and staff officers, 591 police and 1,050 formed police units.

 

Kenya | Unions of doctors and nurses to stage strike in Mombasa from December 12
From December 12, Unions of doctors and nurses are expected to stage a strike in Mombasa, Mombasa County. The action will take place due to the failure to pay salaries for the last 2 months.

 

Kenya – United Arab Emirates | Kenya Airways to start direct Mombasa-Dubai flights on December 15
On December 15, Kenya Airways will start direct Mombasa-Dubai flights. Kenya Airways announced 4 direct flights per day between Moi International Airport (MBA) and Dubai International Airport (DXB).

 

Liberia | Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) to stage a protest, on December 17, in Monrovia, Montserrado
On December 17, the Alternative National Congress/Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) will stage a protest in Monrovia, Montserrado. The protest will be held at the SKD Stadium, Mills Center. The protest is being organised against the current president and government ahead of the 2023 elections.

 

Liberia | Liberian People’s Party to stage a protest in Monrovia, on December 14
On December 14, the Liberian People’s Party (LPP) is staging a protest in Monrovia. The protest will be held outside of the Legislature and the Executive Mansion, in Congo Town. The protest is staged against current civil servant pay as well as for the calendar events in preparation for the 2023 national elections.

 

Mali | Teachers unions to go on strike nationwide from December 14 to 16
From December 14 to 16, teachers’ unions in Mali will go on strike. The unions call for the immediate application of Article 39 of Law No. 2018-007 of January 16, 2018, on the status of teaching staff in secondary education, basic education and preschool education and special.

 

Mauritius | Roadworks to start at M1 motorway and Rose-Hill–Trianon Road on December 8
On December 8, roadworks will start at the M1 motorway and Rose-Hill–Trianon Road (A14),  Port Louis District. The activity is going to last 3 months. Diversions are also planned in Port Louis: Rue Georges Guibert, from its intersection with Rue Pope Hennessy (from KFC) to its intersection with Rue de La Poudrière, Port-Louis, will be temporarily closed to traffic and pedestrians.

 

Mauritius | Georges Guibert Street closed due to work in Port-Louis on December 7-30
From December 7 to 30, Georges Guibert Street will be closed due to work in Port-Louis, Port Louis District. The closing will take place from the intersection with Rue Pope Hennessy to the Rue La Poudrière due to repair work of the Renganaden Seeneevassen building.

 

Nigeria | Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) Plc employees to hold protest, and strike nationwide on December 13
On December 13, Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) Plc employees will hold a strike nationwide. All activities in SAHCO offices will be grounded and a protest will be held at the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) in Abuja from 9 am local time. The union is demanding the company pay the 982 former workers NGN 1.8 billion.

 

Nigeria | NLC and TUC declare 5-day strike in Plateau from December 11 to 16
From December 11 to 16, the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) will go on strike in Plateau. The strike will start at 12 midnight on December 11 local time. The strike was called over non-payment of their salaries and other staff welfare issues.

 

Nigeria | Army launches Operation Golden Dawn II in Orsu, Imo
On November 3, the army announced the launch of Operation Golden Dawn II in Orsu, Imo. The operation will take place in Orlu, Orsu, Ideator North, Ideator South, Okigwe, Oru East, Oru West, and Oguta-Izombe, until January 4, 2023.

 

Nigeria | Central Bank of Nigeria orders OFIs to comply with new cybersecurity guidelines by January 1, 2023
On June 29, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) issued an order asking other financial institutions (OFIs) to comply with new cybersecurity guidelines by January 1, 2023. According to the CBN, the guidelines “specify the minimum requirements the OFIs need to observe in the development and implementation of strategies, policies, procedures, and related activities aimed at mitigating cyber risks”.

 

Senegal | AAHU And Gusseum to go on nationwide strike from September 3 to December 31
From September 3 to December 31, the Alliance of Autonomous Health Unions, And Gueusseum filed a strike notice. The unions are demanding the regularization of salary increases (housing allowance) for administrative and technical staff, social workers, contract workers, and drivers, among others.

 

Somalia | African Union extends withdrawal of soldiers till June 30, 2023
On November 24, the African Union agreed to extend the withdrawal of 2,000 soldiers till June 30, 2023. The withdrawal was earlier scheduled to occur on December 31, 2022.

 

South Africa | 55th ANC to take place in Nasrec, Gauteng on December 16-20
On December 16-20, the 55th National Conference of the African National Congress (ANC) will take place in Nasrec, Gauteng. It will take place at the Johannesburg Expo Centre. The aim of the conference is to elect the 80 members of the party’s National Executive Committee and the party’s so-called Top Six leaders, which include the president.

 

South Africa – Zimbabwe | South African Airways to launch flights between Johannesburg (JNB) and Victoria Falls (VFA), on December 14
On December 14, South African Airways (SAA) will start operating flights between Johannesburg (JNB) and Victoria Falls (VFA). Flights will run 6 days a week between the two airports.

 

South Sudan | Sanctions against South Sudan renewed by UN Security Council until May 31, 2023
On May 26, the UN Security Council voted for the renewal of the sanctions imposed on South Sudan. The sanctions are renewed until May 31, 2023, and include the arms embargo, travel ban and financial measures.

 

South Sudan | UNSC extends peacekeeping mission for a year
On March 15, the United Nations Security Council voted to extend the mandate of the UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan for a year. The mission’s mandate has been extended until March 15, 2023.

 

Sudan | State of emergency declared following tribal clashes in Central Darfur
From November 13 to December 13, a state of emergency was declared following tribal clashes in Central Darfur. This was triggered by tribal conflicts, which left at least 24 people dead. The declaration has banned assembly and gatherings until the state of emergency is revoked.

 

Uganda | Lockdown and curfew to curb Ebola outbreak extended in Mubende and Kassanda, Central Region, till December 17
On November 26, the lockdown and curfew to curb the Ebola outbreak were extended in Mubende and Kassanda, Central Region, till December 17. The measures include a dusk to dawn curfew, a ban on personal travel, and the closure of gathering places like markets, bars, and churches. The lockdown was previously renewed on November 5. There have been no reported cases in 2 weeks.

 

Uganda | All tourism and hospitality operators required to register and get licensed by tourism board before January 1, 2023
On June 20, it was reported that all tourism and hospitality operators will be required to register with and get licensed by the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) before January 1, 2023. According to the Chief Executive Officer of the UTB, Lilly Ajarova, compulsory registration and licensing are being implemented to ensure that a minimum level of standard is maintained in the hospitality and tourism sector.

Brazil – United States | Gol to launch direct flight between Manaus (MAO) and Miami (MIA) from December 17
On December 17, Gol will launch a direct flight between Manaus (MAO) and Miami (MIA). Flights will be available twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

 

Canada – Thailand | Air Canada starts operating non-stop flights between Vancouver (YVR) and Bangkok (BKK) until March 26
On December 1, Air Canada carried out its first flight between Vancouver (YVR) and Bangkok (BKK). The airline will operate four times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, between these destinations until March 26. The flight is the only non-stop flight between North America and Thailand.

 

Colombia | Lane of Avenida Carrera 68 to be closed for works in Bogotá, Bogota from September 12
From September 12, the slow lane of Avenida Carrera 68 will be closed for works in Bogotá, Bogota. The closure will occur in the South-North direction of the road between Calle 8 Sur and Calle 1C. The closure will begin at 11 am local time and will end in approximately a year.

 

Colombia – Venezuela | Tienditas bridge to open on December 15
On December 15, the Tienditas bridge will open. The bridge connects the department of Norte de Santander in Colombia and the Táchira state in Venezuela for the integration of the economy.

 

Costa Rica – United States | Frontier Airlines to launch direct flights between Atlanta (ATL) and Liberia (LIR) from December 17
On December 17, Frontier Airlines will launch a direct flight between Atlanta (ATL) and Liberia (LIR). Flights will be available once a week.

 

El Salvador | Officials extend gang-related State of Emergency through December 15
On November 15, officials extended the gang-related State of Emergency through December 15. The announcement came in the late morning local time, extending the state of emergency that had been put in place in March of this year.

 

Guadeloupe (France) – Haiti – Martinique (France) | Sunrise Airways to launch flights between Port-au-Prince and Fort-de-France and Pointe-a-Pitre from December 18
On December 18, Sunrise Airways will launch a weekly direct flight service between Port-au-Prince (PAP) and Fort-de-France (FDF). Additionally, the airline will also launch a weekly direct flight service between Port-au-Prince (PAP) and Pointe-a-Pitre (PTP) on December 19.

 

Honduras | Partial state of exception declared for 30 days in some areas of the country, December 6 onwards
From December 6 onwards, a partial state of exception has been declared by President Xiomara Castro for 30 days in some areas of the country. The state of exception, which suspends some constitutional rights, will come into effect at 6 pm local time on December 6. The areas affected are expected to be some areas in Tegucigalpa and the northern city of San Pedro Sula. Information about the specific neighborhoods affected is yet to be declared. The state of exception is declared in relation to gang violence in the country.

 

Mexico | Government to search for victims of 2006 Pasta de Conchos mine blast in 2021
On October 23, officials stated they would be searching for victims of the 2006 Pasta de Conchos mine blast that is estimated to have killed 65 bodies. The search will begin in late 2021 and hope to be concluded by August 2024.

 

Peru | SKY Airline to resume flights between Lima and Talara from December 16
From December 16, SKY Airline will resume flights between Lima (LIM) and Talara (TYL). The flights will be operated 4 times a week.

 

Peru | Agrarian and Rural Front of Peru (FARP) to go on an indefinite nationwide strike from December 13
From December 13, the Agrarian and Rural Front of Peru (FARP) will go an indefinite nationwide strike. The strike is being called for to demand new elections and the closure of Congress.

 

Peru | Environmental State of Emergency declared due to oil spill in Loreto
On September 25, the Environmental Ministry declared State of Emergency in Loreto. The measure was declared due to oil spill in an artisinal fishing area of 147.95 kilometers to the left bank of Río Marañón from Cuninico area. It will be enforced for 90 days to remedy the ecological damage.

 

United States | US-Africa Leaders Summit to be held in Washington DC on December 13-15
On December 13-15, the US-Africa Leaders Summit will take place in Washington DC. The aim of the summit is to strengthen the relations between the US government and the African governments and to improve the economic relationship.

Cambodia | Angkor Remembrance Festival to be held in Siem Reap, Siem Reap Province from December 14-16
From December 14-16, the Angkor Remembrance Festival will take place for the second time in Siem Reap, Siem Reap Province. The festival will be held at the Angkor World Heritage Site to celebrate the Khmer empire.

 

China | Social distancing measures to be extended in Hong Kong until December 14
Until December 14, the social distancing measures will be extended in Hong Kong due to an upward trend of the COVID-19 epidemic.

-Group gatherings of more than 12 people are prohibited in public places
– Customers of all bars/pubs must present a negative result of a rapid antigen test within the past 24 hours or a negative result of a nucleic acid test within 48 hours before entering the relevant premises

The maximum number of people allowed per table on catering premises is 12.

 

China | Military exercise to be held in the Yellow Sea from December 13 to 16
From December 13 to 16, a live-fire military exercise is scheduled to take place in the Yellow Sea. Th exercise will take place from December 13 at 06.00 am to December 16 at 06.00 pm local time.

From December 11 to 18, a military exercise is scheduled to take place in the Yellow Sea. The exercise will take place from December 11 at 04.00 pm to December 18 at 04.00 pm local time.

 

China | COVID quarantine and testing requirements eased in Hong Kong
On December 8, authorities eased the COVID quarantine and testing requirements in Hong Kong.

– The isolation period for COVID-19 patients and their close contacts will be reduced to 5 days;
– The requirement for arrivals to Hong Kong to undergo daily rapid antigen tests will be reduced to 5 days;
– The social distancing measures will stay in place until December 28.

 

China | Military exercise to be held in the Bohai Sea on December 6-14
On December 6-14, a military exercise is scheduled to take place in the Bohai Sea. The exercise will take place from December 6 at 12.00 pm to December 14 at 12.00 pm local time.

 

Fiji | Country to hold general elections on December 14
On December 14, Fiji will hold general elections. Polling will take place at almost 1,500 centres across the country.

 

Malaysia | MetMalaysia issues early monsoon warning throughout the country
From November 7, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) warned that the monsoon season will affect the country. Heavy rainfall and winds are expected to affect the country starting November 7 until March 2023. Low-lying areas, areas close to rivers, and high-tide-prone seaside areas are announced as being at the highest risk of floods. The public is advised to begin flood preparations immediately and to constantly follow advice and weather forecast from MetMalaysia.

 

Pakistan | Private offices to be closed for 2 days a week due to smog in Lahore, Punjab
On December 7, the provincial government announced that private offices would be required to close for 2 days a week due to smog in Lahore, Punjab. Private offices will have close on Fridays and Saturdays until January 15.

 

Pakistan | Sialkot International Airport (SKT) to close for international flights in Sialkot, Punjab on December 5-20
From December 5 to December 20, the Sialkot International Airport (SKT) will be closed for international flights in Sialkot, Punjab. The closing is due to repairs on the runway. The Lahore and Islamabad airports could be used as alternative airports.

 

Pakistan – Saudi Arabia | Airblue to start operating direct flights between Multan and Medina from December 16
From December 16, Airblue will start operating direct flights between Multan and Medina. The airliner will operate 2 weekly flights between Multan International Airport (MUX) and Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz International Airport (MED).

 

Philippines | Sicogon Island Airport (ICO) to resume flights from December 16
On December 16, the Sicogon Island Airport(ICO) will resume flights. Direct flights between Manila (MNL) and Sicogon (ICO) will be available every Friday and Monday with AirSWIFT Airlines. Operations at the airport were halted for about three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

 

Philippines | Philippine Airlines to open new route between Cebu (CEB) and Baguio (BAG) on December 16
On December 16, Philippine Airlines will open a new route between Cebu (CEB) and Baguio (BAG). Flights will be available four times a week

 

Philippines | State of calamity due to COVID-19 extended till December 31
From September 13 to December 31, the government extended the state of calamity due to COVID-19 throughout the country.

 

South Korea | Unionized workers at Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyards to take strike action on December 6 and 7; indefinite strike from December 13 onwards
On December 6 and 7, unionized workers at Hyundai Heavy Industries groups’ shipyards plan to take strike action. The shipyards affected are Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries in Samho-eup, and Hyundai Mipo Dockyard. On December 6, the workers will strike for 4 hours and on December 7, the workers will strike for 7 hours. From December 13 onwards, the workers will take indefinite strike action. The workers are demanding increased wages and job security.

 

Sri Lanka | Cinnamon Air to resume domestic flights on December 15
On December 15, Cinnamon Air will start operating domestic flights again. The airliner will operate out of the following airports: Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB), Sigiriya Airport (GIU), Castlereigh Reservoir Airport (NUF), China Bay Airport (TRR), Batticaloa International Airport (BTC), Koggala Airport (KCT), and Weerawila Airport (WRZ).

 

Thailand | Power outages to take place in Srisoonthorn and Pa Klok in central Phuket on December 12-14
On December 12-14, several power outages will occur in Srisoonthorn and Pa Klok, central Phuket. On December 12, Srisoothorn will be affected from 9 am to noon local time, as well as from 9 am to 5 pm on December 13. On December 14, Pa Klok will be affected by a power outage from 9 am to 4:30 pm.

Armenia – United Arab Emirates | FlyOne Armenia to operate flights between Yerevan (EVN)and Dubai (DXB) from December 16
From December 16, FlyOne Armenia will operate flights between Yerevan (EVN) and Dubai (DXB). Flights will be operated every Monday and Friday.

 

Belgium | CSC and FGTB unions to protest in Brussels on December 16
On December 16, the CSC and FGTB unions will hold a demonstration in Brussels. The exact time and location of the demonstration have not been reported. It will be staged on the same day as the European summit in Brussels. Both unions will be protesting for higher wages and denouncing the current energy prices. Brussels Airport expects delays and disruptions as it called companies to cancel 70% of their flights.

 

Bosnia and Herzegovina | 8 cantonal trade unions to protest in Sarajevo, on December 14
On December 14, 8 cantonal trade unions will protest in Sarajevo. The protest will be staged over the unfavourable treatment of the workers by the government. The demonstration will be held in front of the government of Canton Sarajevo from 10 am to 11 am local time.

 

Bosnia and Herzegovina | Protest over medical malpractice to be held in Zenica, Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina on December 14
On December 14, a protest over medical malpractice will be held in Zenica. The protest will be staged over the death of a toddler due to the negligence of health professionals from a private medical institution. The demonstration is scheduled to take place in front of the Cantonal Hospital from 12 pm to 2 pm local time.

 

European Union | EU and ASEAN countries to hold summit in Brussels on December 14
On December 14, EU and ASEAN countries will hold a summit in Brussels. The meeting will focus especially on Russia and China seen as security threats in both regions. Myanmar will likely be excluded from the meeting.

 

France | Tram and bus line disruptions to be expected due to a strike in Montpellier, Occitania
From December 17 to January 3, tram and bus line disruptions will be expected due to a strike in Montpellier, Occitania. The strike will be staged by TaM workers CGT, UGICT, and FO for a wage increase. The strike will last from December 17 at 10 pm to January 3 at 6 am local time.

 

France | Corsair Airlines pilots to go on strike nationwide from December 16 to 22
From December 16 to 22, a strike will be held nationwide. The strike will be staged by the Corsair Airlines pilots supported by the SNPL union for a wage increase.

 

France | SNCF railway signal operators to take strike action, December 15-19
From December 15-19, SNCF railway signal operators have called for strike action. The strike is organized by the SUD-Rail union. The strike could be called off if negotiations are successful.

 

France | Idélis workers go on strike every Friday and Saturday in Pau, Nouvelle-Aquitaine from December 9 to 31
From December 9 to 31, a strike will be held in Pau, Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The strike will be staged by Idélis workers supported by the CGT union for a wage increase. Strikes will be held every Friday and Saturday. Transport services will be affected.

 

France | UNSA DIVIA strike to be held in Dijon, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté from December 8 to 10 and 24 and 31
From December 8 to 10 and 24 and 31, a strike will be held in Dijon, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. The strike will be staged by UNSA DIVIA union for better working conditions.

 

France | Public transport disruptions expected due to a strike warning in Nantes, Pays de la Loire from September 10 to December 31
From September 10 to December 31, public transport disruptions are expected due to a strike warning in Nantes, Pays de la Loire. The strike will be staged by bus and tram workers. The strike warning was issued to demand a wage increase.

 

France – Morocco | Ryanair to launch a new route from Toulouse (TLS) to Rabat (RBA) from November 1
On November 1, Ryanair will launch a new route from Toulouse (TLS) to Rabat (RBA). The new route will operate from November 1, 2022  to March 25, 2023. Flights will be held on Tuesdays and Saturdays and only on Saturdays from December to January.

 

Germany | GEW Union strike and protest to cause school cancellations in Berlin on December 15
On December 15, GEW Union strikes will cause school cancellations in Berlin. A demonstration will be also staged during the strike action, and it will begin at 10 am local time on the Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz. The action will be a day-long warning strike in an attempt to put pressure on the senate for better health protections.

 

Germany | S-Bahn disruptions due to staffing issues to be expected in Berlin from December 6 to 21
From December 6 to 21, S-Bahn disruptions due to sick leaves will be expected in Berlin. The S1, S3, and S5 lines will be affected and the traffic will be reduced.

 

Germany | New COVID sanitary measures for autumn and winter come into effect
On October 1, the new COVID sanitary measures for the seasons of autumn and winter come into effect. The measures reinstated are as follows:

– FFP2 masks are mandatory in long-distance trains, from the age of 14 years-old;
– FFP2 masks are mandatory in hospitals, nursing homes and medical practices, as well as a negative test for hospital and nursing home visitors;
– local authorities competent with imposing the use of a mask in public transportation and public spaces.

These measures can be strengthened if required, according to the evolution of the number of cases, and are to end on April 7, 2023.

 

Ireland | Extinction Rebellion protest to be held in Dingle, County Kerry on December 17
On December 17, an Extinction Rebellion protest will be held in Dingle, County Kerry. The protest will be held at Dingle Harbour at 2 pm local time. It has been organized to demand that bins are placed along the marina.

 

Italy | Democratic Party protest to be held in Rome, Lazio on December 17
On December 17, a protest will be held in Rome, Lazio. The protest will be staged by the Democratic Party against the government’s 2023 budget bill. The location and the time have not yet been announced.

 

Italy | 4-hour public transport strike action scheduled in Rome, Lazio on December 16
On December 16, a 4-hour public transport strike action is scheduled in Rome, Lazio. The strike will occur from 8pm to 11:59 pm. It is organized by the Filt CGIL and Uiltrasporti unions. It will affect the Atac network and the peripheral buses of Rome Tpl.

 

Italy | CGIL demonstration against the government’s budget to be held in Reggio Emilia, Emilia Romagna on December 16
On December 16, a demonstration will be held in Reggio Emilia, Emilia Romagna. The demonstration will be staged by CGIL against the government’s budget. The demonstration will take place from Via Emilia San Pietro to Corso Garibaldi from 9 am to 11:30 am local time.

 

Italy | CGIL strike against the government’s budget to be held in Potenza, Basilicata on December 16
On December 16, a strike will be held in Potenza, Basilicata. The strike will be staged by CGIL against the government’s budget. The strike will take place at Piazza Prefettura at 10 am local time

 

Italy | Multiple demonstrations against the government’s budget to be held in Tuscany on December 16
