Angola | Teacher’s union calls for series of nationwide strikes through November 2022 – January 2023
On October 21, the Angolan Teacher’s Syndicate (SINPROF) called for a series of nationwide strikes. SINPROF announced 3 strike periods before the end of January 2023:

– November 23 – November 30, 2022
– December 6 – December 16, 2022
– January 3 – January 31, 2023

These strike actions are being called for to demand tax rebates, end the privatization of public schools, and increase public education funding. SINPROF previously suspended strikes over these issues in April 2021 and will resume if their demands are not met.”

 

Ghana – Kenya – Senegal | Kenya Airways to launch new flight services between Accra and Dakar from December 11
From December 11, Kenya Airways will launch new flight services between Accra and Dakar. The airline will operate 2 return flights per week from Nairobi via Accra to Dakar.

 

Kenya | Azimio to hold an anti-government demonstration on a nationwide level on December 7
On December 7, the Azimio party is expected to hold an anti-government demonstration on a nationwide level. The action will take place in support of the “Cherera 4” commissioners.

 

Malawi | HRDC cancelled protests against fuel crisis across the country on December 7
On December 7, the Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) will lead mass protests across Malawi. The protest is staged against the fuel crisis and is giving the president until November 29 to fix the crisis. On December 4, the Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) canceled the demonstrations planned for December 7. The main reasons for the demonstrations were mainly linked to the request for the availability of fuel, which according to the HRDC is currently sufficiently met.

 

Mauritius | Roadworks to start at M1 motorway and Rose-Hill–Trianon Road on December 8
On December 8, roadworks will start at the M1 motorway and Rose-Hill–Trianon Road (A14),  Port Louis District. The activity is going to last 3 months. Diversions are also planned in Port Louis: Rue Georges Guibert, from its intersection with Rue Pope Hennessy (from KFC) to its intersection with Rue de La Poudrière, Port-Louis, will be temporarily closed to traffic and pedestrians.

 

Sudan | Civil Defense Forces and Civil Aviation Authority to hold joint emergency exercises at Khartoum International Airport (KRT) on December 7
On November December 7, the Civil Defense Forces and the Civil Aviation Authority will carry out joint emergency exercises at the Khartoum International Airport (KRT). The exercises will begin at 7:00 pm. These exercises aim at enhancing security and safety measures and readiness in operating aircraft during emergencies. Similar exercises were hold on November 28-29.

 

Uganda | Lockdown and curfew to curb Ebola outbreak extended in Mubende and Kassanda, Central Region, till December 17
On November 26, the lockdown and curfew to curb the Ebola outbreak were extended in Mubende and Kassanda, Central Region, till December 17. The measures include a dusk to dawn curfew, a ban on personal travel, and the closure of gathering places like markets, bars, and churches. The lockdown was previously renewed on November 5. There have been no reported cases in 2 weeks.

 


 

Americas

 

Ecuador | Authorities declare 90-day sanitary emergency due to an avian flu outbreak
On November 29, authorities declared a 90-day sanitary emergency due to an avian flu outbreak. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, no birds, or avian products and by-products will be allowed to be transported from farms affected by the outbreak. So far, authorities have ordered the elimination of over 180,000 birds across affected farms.

 

El Salvador | Officials extend gang-related State of Emergency through December 15
On November 15, officials extended the gang-related State of Emergency through December 15. The announcement came in the late morning local time, extending the state of emergency that had been put in place in March of this year.

 

Honduras | Partial state of exception declared for 30 days in some areas of the country, December 6 onwards
From December 6 onwards, a partial state of exception has been declared by President Xiomara Castro for 30 days in some areas of the country. The state of exception, which suspends some constitutional rights, will come into effect at 6 pm local time on December 6. The areas affected are expected to be some areas in Tegucigalpa and the northern city of San Pedro Sula. Information about the specific neighborhoods affected is yet to be declared. The state of exception is declared in relation to gang violence in the country.

Australia | Firefighters at all airports to carry out 4-hour work stoppage on December 9
On December 9, firefighters at all Australian airports will carry out a 4-hour work stoppage over the breakdown of negotiations regarding staff shortages. The work stoppage will be staged between 6 am and 10 am local time.

 

Australia | Extinction Rebellion activists to hold protests in multiple locations nationwide, December 4-6
From December 4-6, Extinction Rebellion activists plan to hold protests in multiple locations nationwide. The protests are against the sentencing of a climate activist who had blocked one lane of traffic on the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The following are the locations and timings of the protest:

– In Melbourne, Victoria at the State Library Victoria at 3:30 pm local time
– In Brisbane, Queensland at King George Square at 5 pm local time
– In Perth, Western Australia at the Magistrates Court at 3 pm local time.
– In Hobart, Tasmania at Parliament Lawns from 1 pm local time.”

 

Bangladesh | BNP to hold rally in Dhaka on December 10
On December 10, the Bangladeshi Nationalist Party (BNP) will hold a rally in Dhaka, Dhaka Division. The protest will occur in the Naya Paltan neighborhood at an unspecified time.

 

Bangladesh | Awami league to protest in Dhaka on December 10
On December 10, the Awami League will conduct protests in Dhaka. The Dhaka District Awami League will conduct a rally in Savar, Ashulia, and Dhamrai in the Mirza Golam Hafiz Degree College ground.

 

Bangladesh | Awami League to protest in Dhaka on December 9
On December 9, Awami League will hold a protest in Dhaka, Dhaka Division. The protest is set to begin in front of the National Mosque Baitul Mokarram at 4 pm local time. The protest is in opposition to the Bangladeshi Nationalist Party (BNP).

 

Bangladesh – India | IndiGo re-commences Hyderabad-Dhaka flights from December 8
From December 8, IndiGo will re-commence their Hyderabad-Dhaka flights. The airliner will operate 3 flights per week between Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (HYD) to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC).

 

China | Military exercise to be held in Beibu gulf on December 7
On December 7, a military exercise is scheduled to take place in the Beibu gulf. The exercise will take place from 08.00 am to 06.00 pm local time.

 

China | Military exercise to be held in the Bohai Sea from December 6 to 14
From December 6 to 14, a military exercise is scheduled to take place in the Bohai Sea. The exercise will take place from December 6 at 12.00 pm (noon) to December 14 at 12.00 pm (noon) local time.

 

China | Military exercise to be held in the Bohai Strait and northern part of the Yellow Sea from December 4 to 11
From December 4 to 11, a military exercise is scheduled to take place in the Bohai Strait and the northern part of the Yellow Sea. The exercise will take place from December 4 at 04.00 pm to December 11 at 04.00 pm local time.

 

China – South Korea | Korean Air to fully resume flights to China, starting December 11
On December 11, Korean Air will fully resume flights to China. The new routes will depart from Incheon International Airport (ICN) and the destinations available are Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG), Nanjing (NKG), and Qingdao (TAO).

 

China – United Kingdom | British Airways to resume direct flights from London Heathrow Airport (LHR) to Hong Kong Airport (HKG) on December 6
On December 6, British Airways will resume direct flights from London Heathrow Airport (LHR) to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG).

 

India | TIPRA party to protest in New Delhi on December 5 and 6
On December 5 and 6, Trpraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA) party will protest in New Delhi. The event will occur in front of the Jantar Mantar observatory at an undisclosed time.

 

India | Road diversions in place in Pune, Maharashtra from December 3 to December 31
From December 3 to December 31, road diversions will be in place in Pune, Maharashtra. Authorities declared that traffic flow on Katraj road Shindewadi will be closed and traffic will be redirected to a new Katraj Ghat tunnel in a one-way commute. Traffic delays are expected as the tunnel is still under construction.

 

India | BJP to rally across Rajasthan between December 1 and December 14
From December 1 to December 14, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will hold rallies across Rajasthan. Demonstrations are likely to start in Jaipur at an unspecified time and spread throughout the state. The action is meant to protest Rajasthan’s incumbent governor.

 

India | State assembly election to be held between December 1 and 8 in Gujarat
On December 1 and 5, voting for the state assembly election will be held in 2 phases in Gujarat. The results will be declared, following the counting of votes, on December 8.

 

Japan | Train services on JR Gono Line to resume between Iwadate and Fukaura from December 9
From December 9, train services on JR Gono Line will resume between Iwadate and Fukaura. The services were suspended due to heavy rainfall in August.

 

Japan – Philippines | JASDF to hold joint exercise with Philippine Airforce from December 7 to 10
From December 7 to 10, JASDF will hold a joint exercise with the Philippine Airforce. Operations will occur at Clark Airbase, Luzon island at an unspecified time.

 

Myanmar – Thailand | Myanmar National Airlines to open flight route between Yangon (YIA) and Chiang Mai (CNX)
On December 9, Myanmar National Airlines will open a flight route between Yangon (YIA) and Chiang Mai (CNX) for flights on every Friday and Sunday.

 

Pakistan | Sialkot International Airport (SKT) to close for international flights in Sialkot, Punjab on December 5-20
From December 5 to December 20, the Sialkot International Airport (SKT) will be closed for international flights in Sialkot, Punjab. The closing is due to repairs on the runway. The Lahore and Islamabad airports could be used as alternative airports.

 

South Korea | KCTU rallies to be held across the country on December 6
On December 6, Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) rallies are scheduled to take place across the country. The rallies will take place:

– In Seoul at 2 pm local time;
– near the Changmal and Uiwang Technoparks in Uiwang-si, Gyeonggi-do at 2 pm
– at Incheon City Hall at 3 pm
– at Taehwagang Station Plaza in Ulsan at 4 pm
– at People’s Power Gyeongnam Provincial Party in Gyeongnam at 4 pm
– at People’s Power Gwangju City Hall in Gwangju at 5 pm

South Korea | Unionized workers at Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyards to take strike action on December 6 and 7; indefinite strike from December 13 onwards
On December 6 and 7, unionized workers at Hyundai Heavy Industries groups’ shipyards plan to take strike action. The shipyards affected are Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries in Samho-eup, and Hyundai Mipo Dockyard. On December 6, the workers will strike for 4 hours and on December 7, the workers will strike for 7 hours. From December 13 onwards, the workers will take indefinite strike action. The workers are demanding increased wages and job security.

 

South Korea – Vietnam | Vietnamese President to make a state visit to South Korea from December 4 to 6
From December 4 to 6, Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc will make a state visit to South Korea. The Vietnamese President will hold a meeting with the South Korean President in Seoul on December 5.

 

Taiwan | Visitation limitations to be eased in hospitals from December 10
From December 10, Visitation limitations to be eased in hospitals. Each patient admitted to a hospital may receive up to two visitors during designated visiting hours. Visitors must provide hospitals with a rapid test taken on the day of visitation that displays a negative result.

 

Taiwan | Weekly cap on arrivals to be removed from December 10
From December 10, Taiwan will remove its current weekly cap on the arrival of visitors from abroad as COVID-19 cases in the country are under stable control. The cap will be raised on December 1 to 200,000, followed by the complete removal of the limit from December 10.

Albania | Anti-government protest to be held in Tirana on December 6
On December 6, an anti-government protest will be held in Tirana. The protest is being staged by the opposition parties against the governance of Prime Minister Edi Rama. This is the second protest for this cause. It is unclear where exactly the protest will take place.

 

Andorra | Demonstration for a wage increase to be held in Andorra la Vella on December 8
On December 8, a demonstration will be held in Andorra la Vella. The demonstration will be staged by the USdA union for a wage increase. The demonstration will start at Plaça Coprínceps d’Escaldes at 7 pm and will end at Plaça Guillemó at 9 pm local time.

 

Finland | ‘Helsinki without Nazis’ demonstration to be held in Helsinki on December 6
On December 6, a ‘Helsinki without Nazis’ demonstration will be held in Helsinki. The demonstration will take place at Töölöntori from 2:30 pm to 5 pm local time. It has been organized by the Helsinki without Nazis coalition.

 

France | Demonstration in support of Iranian people to be held in Créteil, Île-de-France on December 11
On December 11, a demonstration will be held in Créteil, Île-de-France. The demonstration will be staged in support of Iranian people. The demonstration will take place at Place Salvador Allende at 3 pm local time.

 

France | Idélis workers go on strike every Friday and Saturday in Pau, Nouvelle-Aquitaine from December 9 to 31
From December 9 to 31, a strike will be held in Pau, Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The strike will be staged by Idélis workers supported by the CGT union for a wage increase. Strikes will be held every Friday and Saturday. Transport services will be affected.

 

Germany | March in support of Iranian people to be held in Hamburg on December 10
On December 10, a march will be held in Hamburg. The march will be staged in support of Iranian people and will take place at Dammtor Bahnhof from 1 pm to 5 pm local time.

 

Hungary | Teachers scheduled to strike nationwide on December 8
On December 8, teachers are scheduled to strike nationwide. The strike will be staged against low wages and the limitations on the right to strike in the education sector.

 

Ireland | Anti-eviction protest to be held in Dublin on December 10
On December 10, an anti-eviction protest will be held in Dublin. The protest will be held at 94-96 Lower Rathmines Road at 12 pm local time. It has been organized against the eviction of tenants in over 20 apartments on the road.

Ireland| Anti-eviction protests to be held in Dublin on December 5 and 7
On December 5 and 7, protests against the eviction of people from Tathony House will be held in Dublin. They will both take place at City Hall, Dame Street, 5:30 pm local time.

 

Italy | March for human rights to be held in Rome, Lazio on December 10
On December 10, a march will be held in Rome, Lazio. The march will be staged by Partito Radicale in support of human rights. The march will take place at Piazza della Repubblica at 10 am local time.

 

Kyrgyzstan | Ban on rallies in Bishkek extended until December 31
Until December 31, the ban on rallies was extended in Bishkek. According to the Pervomaisky District Court, the ban is extending from Lineynaya Street to Chuy Avenue including Erkindik Boulevard, the Russian Embassy, the Supreme Court, Jogorku Kenesh and the Presidential Administration.

 

Lithuania | Authorities extend state of emergency until December 16
On September 7, Lithuanian authorities extended the state of emergency until December 16. The state of emergency will be in force along the entire border section at the Lithuanian state border with Belarus and the border section with the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation. THe emergency is due to the war in Ukraine and a high influx of migrants.

 

Luxembourg | Railway line 10 between Kautenbach and Wilwerwilt, Diekirch to be closed until December 11
On September 2, national railway CFL announced that the railway line 10 between Kautenbach and Wilwerwiltz, Diekirch will be closed until December 11. The train services  will be suspended due to the collapse of the ceiling of the Schieburg tunnel.

 

Moldova | Parliament extends state of emergency for 60 days
On December 1, the Parliament extended the state of emergency for 60 days. The decision was made due to uncertainty regarding the electrical infrastructure in the country after major power outages in November, as well as frequent protests against the government. The affected period cover from December 7 to February 7.

 

Netherlands | Residents of container houses to stage demonstration in Amsterdam on December 6
On December 6, a demonstration will be held in Amsterdam. The demonstration will be staged by residents of container houses against the fire safety of these houses. The demonstration will take place at the real estate company’s office Lieven de Key from 3 pm to 4:30 pm local time.

 

Portugal | TAP airlines to cancel almost 360 flights due to the cabin crew strike on December 8 and 9
On December 8 and 9, TAP airlines will cancel almost 360 flights due to the cabin crew strike. The cancellations will affect almost 50,000 travellers and will have an impact of EUR 8 million in losses for the company.

 

Russia – United Arab Emirates | Azur Air to launch flight services between Nizhny Novgorod (GOJ) and Dubai (DXB) on December 6
On December 6, Azur Air will launch flight services between Nizhny Novgorod (GOJ) and Dubai (DXB). The airline will operate 2 flights per week – on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

 

Spain | Assemblea Nacional Catalana demonstration to be held in Barcelona, Catalonia on December 6
On December 6, a demonstration will be held in Barcelona, Catalonia. The demonstration will be staged by Assemblea Nacional Catalana against the new crime of aggravated public disorder. The demonstration will take place from Pla de Palau to Plaça de Sant Jaume at 12 pm local time.

 

Spain | Home care service workers to go on strike in Barcelona, Catalonia on December 5, 7, and 9
On December 5, 7, and 9, a strike will be held in Barcelona, Catalonia. The strike will be staged by Home care service workers supported by CGT and Co.bas unions for a wage increase and better working conditions. Also, 3 demonstrations will be held:

– On December 5, a demonstration will take place from Passeig de Sant Joan 48, outside the Domus VI company, to Ronda Universitat 22, outside the Suara company, at 11 am local time.
– On December 7, a demonstration will take place on Calle Sancho de Àvila 52, outside the SUARA company, from 11 am to 2 pm local time.
– On December 9, a demonstration will take place on Calle Bac de Roda 4, outside the Domus VI company, from 11 am to 2 pm local time.

 

Spain | Spain extends visa requirement to enter from Morocco until December 15
From November 15 to December 15, it was reported that Spain extended the visa requirement to enter from Morocco. This measure affects the land borders of the European Union, namely Ceuta and Melilla, and was taken because of the emergence of new variants of the coronavirus.

 

Sweden | Skarshamn 3 power plant to be disconnected from the grid for 9 days from December 9
From December 9, the Oskarshamn 3 nuclear power plant will be disconnected from the grid for 9 days until December 18. The stoppage has been planned to fix a fault on the generator. It could potentially have an impact on the price of electricity.

 

United Kingdom | ‘Torch walk’ to be held in Teddington, England on December 10
On December 10, a ‘Torch walk’ will be held in Teddington, England. Participants will march with torches from the Landmark Arts Centre at 4:30 pm local time, through to Teddington High Street and Broad Street. It has been organized to raise awareness about violence against women and girls.

 

United Kingdom | CWU-associated Royal Mail workers to strike for 6 days between December 9 and December 24
Between December 9 and December 24, CWU-associated Royal Mail workers will go on strike for 6 days. Workers will strike on December 9, 11, 14, 15, 23, and 24. The strikes have been organized due to an ongoing dispute over work and pay. They follow a series of strikes staged in October and November.

 

United Kingdom | SSTA-associated secondary school teachers in Scotland to strike on December 7 and 8
On December 7 and 8, teachers associated with the Scottish Secondary Teachers’ Association (SSTA) in Scotland will go on strike. The strikes will affect the following areas:

– December 7: Argyll and Bute, Dumfries and Galloway, East Ayrshire, East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Western Isles, Glasgow, Highland, Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, North Lanarkshire, Orkney, Renfrewshire, Shetland, South Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire, and West Dunbartonshire.
– December 8: Aberdeen, Angus, Aberdeenshire, Clackmannanshire, Dundee, Edinburgh, East Lothian, Falkirk, Fife, Midlothian, Moray, Perth and Kinross, the Scottish Borders, Stirling and West Lothian

The strikes have been launched over a pay dispute.

 

United Kingdom | Unite-associated Greene King brewers to strike for 5 days from December 5
From December 5, Unite-associated Greene King brewers will strike for 5 days. 188 workers from the following areas will join the strike:

– Bury St Edmunds
– Eastwood
– Abingdon

Unite warned that the strikes could lead to beer shortages. It has been launched over a pay dispute.

 


 

Middle-East & North Africa

 

Algeria – United Arab Emirates | UAE to increase flights to and from Algeria from December 7
From December 7, the UAE will increase flights to and from Algeria to seven per week.

 

Iran | Students of University of Mazandaran on strike on December 5-7
On December 5-7, students will go on strike at the University of Mazandaran. The students also announced that they will stage sit-in protests to support the Iranian uprising.

 

Iran | Youth groups planning to hold nationwide protests on December 5-7
On December 5, 6, and 7, youth groups are planning to hold nationwide protests. The protests will be held to commemorate Student Day which marks the anniversary of the killing of students by the police at the University of Tehran on December 7, 1953.

 

Iran | Protestors call for nationwide strike from December 4-6
On December 4-6, protestors called for a nationwide strike against all economic activity. This strike is part of the Mahsa Amini protests but it is not clear how widespread the strike will be. The protestors also said they will end the strike with a rally in Azadi Square in Tehran.

 

Italy – United Arab Emirates | Air Arabia to launch direct flights between Sharjah (SHJ) and Milan Bergamo Airport (BGY) from December 7
From December 7, Air Arabia will launch direct flights between Sharjah International Airport (SHJ) and Orio al Serio International Airport (Milan Bergamo Airport) (BGY). The airline will operate 4 weekly flights.

 

Morocco | Moroccan Syndicate for Higher Education and Scientific Research to stage a protest in Rabat on December 8
On December 8, the Moroccan Syndicate for Higher Education and Scientific Research will stage a protest in Rabat. The protest will be staged in front of the Education Ministry’s headquarters against alleged ambiguity regarding the reform of the educational system.

 

Morocco | State of emergency due to COVID-19 extended until December 31
From November 30 to December 31, the Moroccan government announced the extension of the COVID-19 state of emergency in the country.

 

Tunisia | Bakeries to go on strike nationwide from December 7
From December 7, bakeries will go on strike nationwide. The strike will be staged to demand that the Ministry of Commerce repays the debts of the bakeries.

 

Tunisia | Employees of the Tunisian Company of Electricity and Gas to strike on December 7-8
On December 7 and 8, a strike is planned by the Tunisian Company of Electricity and Gas employees. The strike is to demand performance bonuses and promotions for exceptional work. During the strike, the employees plan to not do any work outside of their job description, boycotting maintenance work in production and transport units, and not working overtime.

 

Tunisia – United Kingdom | Tunisair resumes flight services between Tunis Airport (TUN) and London Gatwick (LGW), to increase number of weekly flights from December 9
On November 23, it was reported that Tunisair has resumed its flight services between Tunis Airport (TUN) and London Gatwick Airport (LGW). The airline plans to increase the number of flights per week from 2 to 4 on December 9.

 

Turkey | Demonstrations to be banned in Mardin from November 30 to December 14
From November 30 to December 14, it was reported that demonstrations, marches, rallies, and outdoor activities will be banned throughout the city of Mardin, Mardin Province. According to Mardin Governor’s Office, the ban will last from 12 am local time on November 30 to 11:59 pm local time on December 14.
