On October 2, taxis driver will go on strike in Maseru. They demand that the government support operators who have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The protest will take place in front of the Ministerio de Economía de Nación at an unconfirmed time. The strike is staged to demand the reopening of joint ventures, an increase in emergency salaries, and job stability.

 

Aruba (Netherlands) – Colombia – Cuba | Wingo to launch new flight services from José María Córdova Airport (MDE) to Havana (HAV) and Oranjestad (AUA) from October 1
From October 1, Wingo will launch new flight services from José María Córdova Airport (MDE), Colombia to Havana (HAV), Cuba and Oranjestad (AUA), Aruba. The company will also increase its operations to Panama City (PTY).

 

Canada | Extension of current COVID-19 public health measures for travellers entering Canada until at least September 30
On June 29, the Canadian government announced the extension of current COVID-19 public health measures for travellers entering Canada until at least September 30. This means that travellers will still need to provide proof of vaccination to enter the country and unvaccinated travellers will need to provide a COVID-19 test taken prior to entering and quarantine for 14 days upon arrival. The use of the ArriveCan app will also remain mandatory.

 

Chile | COVID-19 restrictions to be eased from October 1
On October 1, COVID-19 restrictions will be eased. The restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, such as the mobility pass, capacity, and the use of masks in closed rooms will no longer be applicable. However, the use of masks in closed spaces or transport is still recommended.

On September 26, multiple demonstrations are expected to take place across the country. The actions are motivated against newly proposed reforms by the Petro administration. No specific locations have been announced. Traffic disruptions and violence can take place during the demonstrations.

On September 26, Presidents Nicolás Maduro and Gustavo Petro will meet at the border opening. The meeting could take place on the Simon Bolivar Bridge.

Haiti | Demonstrations against rising in fuel prices and high cost of living, to be held on September 26 and 28 in Port-au-Prince, Ouest
On September 26 and 28, another round of demonstrations, against the rise in fuel prices and high cost of living, will be held in Port-au-Prince, Ouest. The demonstrations have been called by a group called the ‘Popular Movement for Change’. The protesters will reportedly gather at Champ de Mars and Carrefour de l’Aeroport and march through several streets in the city including Nazon, Carrefour de l’Aeroport, Autoroute de Delmas, and turn off at Delmas 60.

On September 30, Democracy Manch will launch a rally in Dhaka. The event will be held in front of the National Museum. They demand an end to killings, assaults, and repression across the country and a change of government and regime.

 

China | COVID-19 mandatory quarantine to be lifted in Hong Kong from September 26
From September 26, COVID-19 mandatory quarantine at the airport will be changed from the current “3+4” to “0+3” in Hong Kong. People coming to the city will need to take a rapid test before departure, with the city doing away with the requirement for a pre-flight PCR, and will still need to take a PCR upon their arrival. In the 3 days, travellers will continue to face restrictions on their movements, including being banned from going to bars and eating at restaurants.

 

China | China announces closure of shipping in Bohai Bay, due to military drills, from September 25 to October 2
From September 25 to October 2, China announced the closure of shipping in Bohai Bay, for the performance of military drills.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, a restricted flight zone will be established within a radius of about 46 kilometres of the venue, Nippon Budokan in Chiyoda Ward.

From September 25 to 29, US Vice President Kalama Harris is scheduled to visit Japan and South Korea. On September 27, the US delegation will attend the State Funeral of former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo and will meet senior government officials in Tokyo. On September 29, US Vice President will meet with South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, in Seoul, to discuss ways to strengthen South Korea-US relations, North Korea, economic security, and key regional and international issues.

From October 1 to 14, a US-Japan joint military exercise “Resolute Dragon” is scheduled to take place in Hokkaido. The training will be held at Kamifurano, Shikaribetsu, Yausubetsu practice areas, Shizunai anti-aircraft firing range, JASDF Kekinebetsu off-field airfield, Sapporo airfield, and Tokachi airfield

On September 26, classes at all levels in multiple cities will be suspended due to Typhoon Karding in National Capital Region, Calabarzon, Central Luzon, and Ilocos Region. Additionally, the Ateneo de Manila University and the University of the Philippines Diliman have also suspended their classes.

 

South Korea | General strike of bus drivers union to be held in Gyeonggi-do from September 30
From September 30, a general strike of the bus drivers union is scheduled to take place in Gyeonggi-do. The union calls for resolutions for long driving schedules and low wages. The strike will involve more than 16,600 buses, accounting for 92 percent of all route buses in Gyeonggi-do.

 

South Korea | Government to lift COVID-19 outdoor mask mandate on September 26
On September 26, the government will lift the COVID-19 outdoor mask mandate. According to the announcement made on September 23 by Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, people will no longer be required to wear masks at “outdoor gatherings of 50 or more people, and sporting events and concerts”. However, the current indoor mask restrictions will continue to remain in place until further notice.

 

Thailand | Government to end nationwide COVID-19 state of emergency on October 1
On October 1, the government will end the nationwide COVID-19 state of emergency. The announcement was made by Deputy Health Minister Sathit Pitutecha on September 23. The state of emergency had been in place since March 2020. According to a CCSA spokesperson, the government will also dissolve the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) on October 1.

Starting October 1, COVID-19 restrictions will be eased for foreign visitors. Health authorities announced that visitors will not be required to be vaccinated or to provide negative COVID-19 test results.

On September 30, the Doel 3 nuclear reactor will be permanently shut down in Beveren, Flemish Region. The nuclear reactor will be disconnected from the power grid at 9:15 pm local time.

 

Denmark – Norway – Poland | Baltic Pipe gas pipeline scheduled to open on September 29
On September 29, the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline will officially open. The pipeline is a joint project of gas operators Energinet and Gaz-System and will link Norwegian gas resources with Denmark and Poland. It is planned to deliver nearly 10 billion cubic meters of gas.

 

Finland – United States | Joint military exercises in Dragsvik, Uusimaa from October until December
In October, joint military exercises will commence between the US Marine Corps and the Finnish Navy, as part of the Finnish Navy’s Exercise Freezing Winds 22 main autumn exercise, in Dragsvik, Uusimaa. The exercises will end in early December. The 150 operatives of the 2nd Marine Logistics Group will arrive in Finland and will be accommodated in the Nyland Brigade. The exercise will result in the temporary closing of a 5-kilometer section of Finland’s National Road 4 from September 25 until the end of September. The exercises happen as part of Finland’s Western-approaching agenda, increasing cooperation and training with its partners.

On September 29, a protest against low wages will be held in Bordeaux, Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The protest will start at 11:30 am local time in Place de la Republique. The protest was organised by CGT, Solidaires, FSU.

On September 29, the CGT and Solidaires unions have called for a national interprofessional strike. The strike is being organised to protest against reforms to unemployment insurance and planned pension reforms.

 

France | Multiple protests for the right to abortion to be held on September 28
On September 28, several protests for the right to abortion will be held in France:

From September 28-30, a strike is expected to be held by public transport workers in Paris, Île-de-France. The strike will last from 10 pm on September 28 to 7 am on September 30.

 

France | Public hospital workers to go on strike on September 27
On September 27, public hospital workers will go on strike. The strike is organised by FO, CFDT, and Unsa, due to disputes over wages and staffing.

 

Germany | New COVID-19 protective measures to be adopted from October 1 to April 7, 2023
From October 1 to April 7, 2023, new COVID-19 protective measures will be adopted nationwide.

– People over 14 years of age are required to wear an FFP2 mask on long-distance trains in Germany
– Passengers will not be required to wear a face mask for domestic as well international flights.
– All hospital and nursing home employees and visitors are required to wear an FFP2 mask.

The new measures follow a new legal framework passed by the German Bundestag on September 8. Individual states may introduce mask requirements in public transport and schools as they deem necessary.”

 

Italy | Ryanair, Volotea, Easyjet, and Vueling cabin crew to go on nationwide strike on October 1
On October 1, a strike will be held nationwide. The strike will be staged by Ryanair, Volotea, Easyjet, and Vueling cabin crew supported by Filt-Cgil, Uiltrasporti, and Uilt-Uil unions for better working conditions and against redundancies. Ryanair, Volotea, and Easyjet strike will last 24 hours, while the Vueling strike will be for 4 hours from 1 pm to 5 pm local time.

 

Italy | Cyclone expected over the country on September 26
On September 26, a serious risk of cyclone formation is expected in Italy. A wave of severe bad weather will bring about heavy rainfall, flood risks, thunderstorms, temperature drops, and snow. The regions most exposed to floods are Tuscany, Lazio, Campania, and Calabria. As for Livigno, Breuil Cervinia, and Solda, these are the regions that can expect snow, being close to the Alps.

 

Latvia | Health workers to go on a strike on September 27-28
On September 27-28, health workers under the Latvian Health and Social Care Workers’ Union will go on a 2-day warning strike. The strike will be staged demanding salary increases. On September 27, a protest will also be held in front of the Cabinet of Ministers.

 

Latvia | Military exercise “Namejs 2022” to take place in Latvia, from September 6 to October 9
From September 5 to October 9, the military exercise “Namejs 2022” will take place in Latvia. The purpose of the exercise is to improve the command and control system of the National Armed Forces, strengthen cooperation between units, check and improve supply issues, improve integration of air, sea and land operations, and implement tactical training of military units for the hybrid and conventional operations. National and local governments, as well as representatives of private sector organizations, will take part in the military exercise.

 

Luxembourg | Demonstration to be held by Luxair workers in Luxembourg City on September 26
On September 26, a demonstration will be held by Luxair workers in Luxembourg City. The demonstration has been called by OGBL, LCGB and NGL-SNEP. The protesters will gather at the Glacis car park, in Limpertsberg at 8 am local time and then march to the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works.

 

Malta | Anti-government protest to be reportedly held in Valletta on October 2
On October 2, a protest against the Labour Government will be held in Valletta, according to the PN leader, Bernard Grech. The protest is expected to start at 3:00 pm local time. Demonstrators will protest against the handling of the rising cost of living.

 

Slovakia | Eurobus drivers to strike in Rožňava and Košice, Košice Region, on September 26
On September 26, Eurobus drivers will hold a one-day warning strike in Rožňava and Košice, Košice Region. The strike will be staged over collective agreement disputes regarding salary increases.

 

Slovenia | RTV Slovenija journalists to hold strike in Ljubljana on September 26
On September 26, journalists of RTV Slovenija will hold an all-day warning strike in Ljubljana. The strike is staged demanding journalistic and editorial autonomy. The protest will begin at Republic Square in front of the National Assembly at 7 pm local time.

 

Spain | Taxi drivers to go on strike in Andalusia from September 23 to 26
From September 23 to 26, a strike will be held in Andalusia. The strike will be staged by taxi drivers against the decree law regulating the activities of VTC. The strike will start on September 23 at 7 pm and will finish on September 26 at 7 am.

 

Spain | Unionized bus workers to stage 24-hour strike in Barcelona, Catalonia on September 22, and 2-hour strikes per shift from September 23-30
On September 22, bus workers, associated with the CGT, SIT, ACTUB, CCOO and UGT unions, will stage a 24-hour strike in Barcelona, Catalonia. From September 23 to 30, they will strike 2 hours per shift.

 

Spain | Bin collectors and street cleaning workers to take strike action in Barcelona, Catalonia, September 21-26
On September 21-26, bin collectors and street cleaning workers, associated with the UGT union, will take strike action in Barcelona, Catalonia. The strike action is organized due to dispute over wages.

 

Sweden | Extinction Rebellion to demonstrate in Stockholm on September 27
On September 27, Extinction Rebellion activists will hold a protest in Stockholm. The demonstration will take place in the center of the city and last from 11 am to 2:40 pm.

 

Ukraine | Longer curfew hours to be introduced in Mykolaiv Oblast from October 1
From October 1, longer curfew hours will be introduced in Mykolaiv Oblast. The curfew will last from 10 pm to 6 am local time. Lights are supposed to be switched off during this period.

 

Ukraine | Curfew extended in Kyiv Oblast until October 2
On September 24, the curfew in Kyiv Oblast was extended until October 2. The curfew will be in effect from 11:00 pm to 5:00 am local time. During the curfew hours, it is forbidden to be in public places and to move with any means of transport.

From October 1, Air Cairo will launch flights between Hurghada International Airport (HRG) and Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU). The flights are scheduled once per week, on Saturdays. The outbound service will operate with a 1-hour stop in Skopje.

 

Israel – Palestinian territories | West Bank and Gaza Strip crossings to be closed from September 25-27 and October 4-5
From September 25-27 and October 4-5, the West Bank and Gaza Strip border crossings will be closed due to the High Holidays. The closure will start at 4 pm local time on September 25 and end at 11.59 pm local time on September 27. According to Israeli security forces, humanitarian assistance will continue to be permitted even during the festive days. The decision on whether the crossings will remain closed on October 9-16 (Sukkot holiday) has not yet been announced.

 

Kuwait | Parliamentary election planned on September 29
