On September 11, voting will be held for electing local municipal representatives across the country. For the first time in 30 years, citizens will elect their municipal representatives.

 

Ghana | Telecom and IT Professional Union (TIP) staff to strike on September 5
On September 5, workers and staff attached to the Telecom and IT Professionals Union (TIP) are expected to strike nationwide.

 

Guinea | FNDC called for demonstrations on September 5
On September 5, the FNDC called for a mobilization to denounce “the killings perpetrated by the CNRD and the transitional government during the peaceful demonstrations”. They also demand the release of pro-democracy citizens arrested in the previous demonstrations.

 

Kenya | US embassy issues security alert due to upcoming Supreme Court ruling on presidential results on September 5
On September 1, the US embassy issued a security alert due to the upcoming Supreme Court ruling on presidential results on September 5. Election-related demonstrations and rallies regularly take place after elections, at times blocking key intersections and causing traffic jams. Demonstrations may occasionally be violent, requiring police intervention.

 

Nigeria | Emirates Airlines to restart flight operations to Lagos from September 11
Starting September 11, Emirates Airlines will restart flight operations to Lagos (LOS). The decision comes after the Central Bank of Nigeria released a portion of funds that Emirates had earned in the country but had not been able to repatriate. Flights to Abuja will not operate in September.

 

Nigeria | Army to conduct its annual range classification exercise in Obinze, Imo from September 5-9
From September 5-9, Nigerian Army will conduct its annual range classification exercise in Obinze, Imo. The exercise will be conducted at the Small Arms Shooting Range, Obinze Barracks from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm local time daily. Residents in the area are advised to keep away from the army range area.

 

Sudan | Doctors at Dongola Hospital to go on general strike on September 5
On September 5, doctors at Dongola Hospital will be on a general strike. Dongola Hospital doctors have been on partial strike for less critical cases since August 10, with the aim of putting pressure on the government to achieve their demands. This new comprehensive strike is a result of the deteriorating conditions in Dongola Hospital, the absence of emergency necessities and the state government’s failure to respond to their demands.

On September 7, there will be a military parade in downtown Rio, Rio de Janeiro. Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes confirmed the location of Avenida Presidente Vargas for the military parade, despite the wishes of President Jair Bolsonaro to hold it at Copacabana Beach.

 

Dominican Republic | Colegio Médico Dominicano (CMD) to march in Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional on September 7
On September 7, the Colegio Médico Dominicano (CMD) will hold a march in Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional. The march will begin at 10 am local time from the CMD headquarters on Calle Paseo De los Médicos and will move towards the Consejo Nacional de la Seguridad Social on Avenida Tiradentes. The march is staged against the “abuses” of Health Risk Administrators (ARS) including the violation of price agreements.

 

United States – Venezuela | US extends Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuelan nationals, starting September 10
Starting September 10, the United States will extend the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuelan nationals who benefited from previous similar protections and those residing in the country since March 8, 2021. The extension will be valid for 18 months.

 

United States | Frontier Airlines to launch direct flight between Denver (DEN) and Houston (HOU) from September 7
From September 7, Frontier Airlines announced the launch of a direct flight between Denver International Airport (DEN) and Houston William P. Hobby Airport (HOU). Flights will operate daily.

 

United States | American Airlines to stop flight services to 4 cities, on September 7, due to a shortage of pilots
On September 7, American Airlines will stop its flight services to 4 cities due to a shortage of regional pilots. According to an American Airlines spokesperson, the airline will stop its services to Islip (ISP) and Ithaca (ITH), New York; Toledo (TOL), Ohio; and, Dubuque (DBQ), Iowa.

 

Venezuela | March to be held by public workers in Barcelona, Anzoategui on September 6
On September 6, a march will be held by public workers in Barcelona, Anzoategui. The march will begin at Plaza Bombón and will move towards the Defensoría del Pueblo. The demonstration is to demand a fulfillment of their rights and labor benefits.

Australia | Victorian Forest Alliance and Extinction Rebellion Australia to hold rally for threatened species day in Melbourne, Victoria, on September 7
On September 7, the Victorian Forest Alliance and Extinction Rebellion Australia will hold a rally for threatened species day in Melbourne, Victoria. The rally will begin at 10 am local time in front of the Melbourne Museum and will move along Nicholson St. to Parliament House, finishing at the Treasury Gardens.

 

China | Yellow alert issued for typhoon Hinnamnor; moderate to heavy rainfall predicted in parts of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai
On September 5 and 6, a yellow alert has been issued for typhoon Hinnamnor. According to the Central Meteorological Observatory, moderate to heavy rainfall is predicted in parts of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai between 8 am (local time) on September 5 and 8 am on September 6.

 

India | Alliance Air to restart flight services between Shimla Airport (SLV) and Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) in Delhi September 6
On September 6, Alliance Air will restart flight services between Shimla Airport (SLV) in Jubbarhatti, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi (DEL). Reports did not disclose the reasons for the withdrawal of the route.

 

India | Indore-Gandhidham train service to restart on August 8
On August 8, the Indore-Gandhidham train will restart its service. Train No. 20936 Indore-Gandhidham Superfast Weekly Express will run every Sunday.

 

India | IndiGo airline to restart direct flights between Indore (IDR) and Jodhpur (JDH) September 8
On September 8, IndiGo airline will restart direct flights between Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport (IDR) in Indore, Madhya Pradesh and Jodhpur Airport (JDH), Rajasthan. The airline halted services between the cities on March 27 due to a lack of passenger traffic.

 

Japan | Unescorted tourists to be allowed from September 7
On September 7, unescorted tourists will be allowed to travel to Japan. The announcement was made by the Japan Tourism Agency. Visitors from all countries will be allowed to travel to Japan through unescorted packages provided by tourist agencies.

 

Japan | Government to raise daily cap on entry and remove COVID-19 negative test requirement for fully-vaccinated travellers from September 7
On September 7, the Japanese government will remove the pre-departure COVID-19 negative test requirement for incoming travellers who have received at least 3 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. The government will also raise its daily cap on the number of people entering the country. However, the government has not clarified whether it will allow tourists to travel into the country as individuals not part of a tourist group.

 

Japan | Strong winds and heavy rainfall predicted as typhoon Hinnamnor expected to affect parts of northern Kyushu on September 5 and 6
On September 5 and 6, strong winds, rough seas, and heavy rainfall are predicted as typhoon Hinnamnor is expected to affect parts of northern Kyushu. According to the Meteorological Agency, “Hinnamnor is expected to approach northern Kyushu from the evening of September 5 through the morning of September 6.

 

New Zealand | Snowfall warning issued for Ruapehu area, Manawatu-Wanganui
On September 5 and 6, a snowfall warning has been issued for the Ruapehu area, Manawatu-Wanganui. According to a MetService meteorologist, a road snowfall warning has been put in place from 3 pm (local time) on September 5 until 3 am on September 6.

 

Pakistan | UN Secretary-General to visit Pakistan from September 9-11
From September 9 to 11, the UN Secretary-General will visit Pakistan. The Secretary-General will travel to the areas most impacted by the flooding.

 

Pakistan | Polio vaccine campaign will begin in Balochistan on September 5
On September 5, a polio vaccine campaign will begin in Balochistan. The campaign was to initially begin on August 29, but due to flooding in the province will start on September 5 for all of Balochistan. The campaign will last for 5 days.

 

Singapore | Heavy rainfall warning issued for northern and western areas
On September 5, a heavy rainfall warning has been issued for northern and western areas of Singapore. According to the National Environmental Agency, the warning will be in force between 11:35 am and 12:35 pm local time. Flash flooding can be expected in some areas.

 

South Korea | Typhoon Hinnamnor forecast to make landfall near Busan on September 6
On September 6, typhoon Hinnamnor is forecast to make landfall near Busan. According to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), the typhoon is likely to “make landfall 80 kilometres north-northwest of Busan” by 9 am local time on September 6.

 

South Korea | Typhoon Hinnamnor expected to pass near Jeju Island on September 6
On September 6, typhoon Hinnamnor is expected to pass near Jeju Island. According to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), the typhoon is predicted to reach the sea waters 70 kilometres south of Seogwipo on September 6.

 

Taiwan | Military exercise to be held in Pingtung from September 5 to 8
From September 5 to 8, the Taiwanese military live-fire exercise “Lien Yung” is scheduled to take place in Pingtung. It will be the second largest drill, following the annual Han Kuang exercises.

Bosnia and Herzegovina | Protests against the amendments to the Election Law of BiH scheduled in Sarajevo, September 7
On September 7, a protest will be held in Sarajevo. The protest is staged against the High Representative Christian Schmidt’s plan to amend the Election Law of BiH and the Constitution of the Federation of BiH. The demonstrations will take place in front of the Office of the High Representative building at 5:30 pm local time.

 

Finland | Finnair to resume flights between Helsinki (HEL) and Guangzhou (CAN) on September 6
On September 6, Finnair will resume flights between Helsinki (HEL) and Guangzhou (CAN). The weekly service will depart from Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport (HEL) in Helsinki on Tuesdays and from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) in Guangzhou on Thursdays.

 

France | CFDT workers’ union called for a strike at Marseille Metro Stations, on September 7
On September 7, the CFDT workers’ union called for a strike at Marseille Metro Stations. The strike will partially affect the points of sale of tickets across 7 locations. The workers demand more staff to meet the service demand.

 

Germany | Doctors to take go on strike in Berlin on September 7
On September 7, doctors associated with the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians will take go on strike in Berlin. The strike is organized to protest the planned cancellation of the new patient regulation.

 

Germany | Several demonstrations to be held in Leipzig, Saxony, on September 5
On September 5, 7 demonstrations are planned to take place in Leipzig, Saxony. The following groups will demonstrate, for various reasons:
– The Left Party plans to demonstrate and hold a rally at Augustusplatz around 7 pm local time (3000-4000 participants expected)
– The right-wing extremist party “Freie Sachsen” plans to demonstrate at Augustusplatz around 5 pm local time
– The ‘Leipzig nimmt Platz’ group has registered a demonstration beginning at 5:30 pm, from Südplatz to Kleiner Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz (150 participants expected)
– The “Soziale Kämpfe” group has registered a rally beginning at 5.30 pm, from Südplatz to Augustusplatz. (150 participants expected)
– The “Bewegung Leipzig” group has registered a demonstration at 7 p.m. at the Mendebrunnen on Augustusplatz. (300 participants expected)
– The AfD district association in Leipzig will hold a rally in Permoserstraße in Paunsdorf from 4.30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
– Another group will demonstrate at the Paulinum on Augustusplatz from 7 p.m. (300 participants expected)

 

Greece | Independent workers’ demonstration to be held in Thessaloniki, Central Macedonia on September 10
On September 10, the Independent workers’ demonstration will be held in Thessaloniki, Central Macedonia. The rally will start at 6:00 pm local time in Kamara.

 

Hungary | Train drivers announce indefinite strike from September 5
From September 5, train drivers will go on an indefinite strike. Train Driver’s Union announced that all railway passenger and freight transport will be suspended if no agreement is reached to compensate for the loss of earnings in 2021.

 

Italy | Train drivers and railway staff to go on nationwide strike action for 8 hours on September 9
On September 9, train drivers and staff of Trenitalia, Italo, and Trenord rail services will go on nationwide strike action for 8 hours. The strike will last from 9 am to 5 pm local time. The strike is organized by the Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, Uiltrasporti, Ugl Ferrovieri, Fast Confsal and Orsa, to protest incidents of aggression against railway workers.

 

Italy | Anti-covid measures strike to be held nationwide on September 9 and 10
On September 9 and 10, a strike will be held nationwide. The strike will be staged against mandatory vaccination and the green pass in schools and at work.

 

Kosovo – Serbia | Serbian PM Ana Brnabic to visit Kosovo on September 5
On September 5, Serbian PM Ana Brnabic will visit Kosovo. The PM will visit Northern Mitrovica, Zvecan and Leposavic.

 

Norway | Palestinian protest against the Oslo Accords to be held in Oslo on September 10
On September 10, a Palestinian protest against the Oslo Accords will be held in Oslo. The protest will take place in front of the Norwegian Parliament at Stortinget at 4 pm local time.

 

Poland | Public transport strike to be held in Łódź, from September 5
From September 5, an indefinite strike of public transport employees will be held in Łódź. The decision to strike comes after failed negotiations of trade unionists with the management regarding a salary increase. The strike will begin at 2 am local time. Buses and Trams will be affected.

 

Spain | Protest to be held in Moraleja, Extremadura on September 6
On September 6, a protest will be held in Moraleja, Extremadura. The protest will be staged by Unión de Extremadura union to demand aid for irrigators. The protest will take place on Plaza de España.

 

Spain | Demonstration for the independence of Catalonia to be held in Barcelona on September 11
On September 11, a demonstration will be held in Barcelona, Catalonia. The demonstration will be staged by ANC for the independence of Catalonia. The demonstration will start in Avinguda del Parallel at 5.14 pm local time, and will end in Avinguda del Marquès de l’Argentera. Thousands are expected to participate.

 

Sweden | Fridays for Future calls for climate protest in Stockholm, September 9
On September 9, Fridays for Future called for a climate protest in Stockholm. The protest will occur at Sergels Torg at 12:30 pm local time.

 

United Kingdom | Arriva bus drivers to go on strike in Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire, England on September 5 and 6
On September 5 and 6, Arriva bus drivers will go on strike in Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire, England. Depots in Luton, Aylesbury, High Wycombe, Milton Keynes, Ware, Stevenage and Hemel Hempstead will be affected.

 

United Kingdom | Demonstration to be held, against deportation of asylum seekers to Rwanda, in London, England on September 5
On September 5, multiple groups will stage a demonstration, against the deportation of asylum seekers to Rwanda, in London, England. The demonstration will be held outside the Royal Courts of Justice in Strand from 9 am to 5 pm local time. Unions and organisations such as TUC, Care4Calais, Amnesty, PCS, Unison, Unite, ASLEF, UCU. and BFAWU will be involved in the demonstration.

 

United Kingdom | Transgender equality march to be held in Edinburgh, Scotland on September 5
On September 5, a march will be held in Edinburgh, Scotland. The march will be staged by Rainbow Greens for transgender equality. The march will start in front of the Edinburgh City Chambers at 11 am local time to reach the Parliament.

 

United Kingdom | Road closures to be implemented on the M6 due to maintenance work in Lancashire, England from September 7
From September 7, there will be road closures on the M6 in Lancashire, England. Due to maintenance work on two bridges on Whittingham Lane and Stubbins Lane, the M6 will be closed during the night of September 7,8,26, and 27, from 9 pm to 5 am local time, and every weekend of the month. The closures will affect junction 12 and junction 23 to 33.

 

United Kingdom | UNISON and the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) to march and rally in Edinburgh, Scotland on September 8
On September 8, UNISON and the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) will hold a march and rally in Edinburgh, Scotland. The march will gather at 10:30 am local time at Johnson Terrace and will move towards the Scottish Parliament at 11 am. The rally is expected to last from 11.30 am to 1 pm. The demonstration is staged against the cost-of-living crisis and to demand a pay rise.

 

United Kingdom | Pro-independence protest to be held in Falkirk, Scotland on September 10
On September 10, a pro-independence protest will be held in Falkirk, Scotland. The rally will start at 12:30 pm local time.

 

United Kingdom | National Rejoin March to be held in London, England on September 10
On September 10, a National Rejoin March will be held in London, England. The march will begin at 12 pm local time at Marble Arch in Hyde Park and will move towards Parliament Square for 2:30 pm. The march is to demand the UK rejoins the European Union.

 

United Kingdom | Extinction Rebellion to hold demonstrations in London from 10-12 September and 14 October
From 10-12 September, Extinction Rebellion activists will hold demonstrations in London, England. From 13 September onwards, activists plan to travel across the United Kingdom for regional mobilization. On October 14, a demonstration is set to be held in Westminster, London. Details regarding the various demonstrations are forthcoming.

On September 5-6, President of the Palestinian National Authority Mahmoud Abbas will arrive in Cairo on an official visit where he will hold talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

 

Tunisia | Air traffic controllers to go on strike on September 9
On September 9, air traffic controllers are expected to go on strike. The strike was initially scheduled for August 25 but was postponed.

 

Tunisia | Health sector employees to stage region-wide strike, on September 6, in Siliana
On September 6, health sector employees will stage a region-wide strike in Siliana. The strike was announced by the Regional Labor Union (URT) in Siliana. The strike is being organised to protest against the “marginalisation of the health sector in the region”.

 

United Arab Emirates | New 5-year ‘Green Residence Visa’ to come into effect from September 5
From September 5, the new 5-year “Green Residence Visa” comes into effect. Skilled professionals, freelancers, investors, and entrepreneurs are entitled to request the new visa without the need of a sponsor, and enables holders to bring first-degree relatives into the country for the duration of their stay.
