On September 3, the Coalition of Progressive Forces in Northern Ghana is expected to launch a demonstration in Tamale, Northern Region. The action will take place across Tamale. The demonstration against economic hardship is a rescheduled event from its initial plan for August 20.

 

Nigeria | Amalgamated Arewa Youths Group (AAYG) to stage peaceful protest at NNPC headquarters in Abuja on August 30
On August 30, the Amalgamated Arewa Youths Group (AAYG) will stage a peaceful protest at NNPC headquarters in Abuja. The protest is against the pipeline surveillance contract awarded to ex-Niger Delta militant leader by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the NNPC Limited.

 

Senegal | AAHU And Gusseum to go on nationwide strike from September 3 to December 31
From September 3 to December 31, the Alliance of Autonomous Health Unions, And Gueusseum filed a strike notice. The unions are demanding the regularization of salary increases (housing allowance) for administrative and technical staff, social workers, contract workers, and drivers, among others.

From September 1, Chile relieves requirements for the entry of tourists. Non-resident foreigners must present a vaccination certificate against COVID-19, or a PCR carried out maximum 48 hours before leaving the country of origin.

 

Cuba – Panama | Wingo announces the launch of direct flights between Panama City (BLB) and Havana (HAV) from September 3
From September 3, Wingo will launch flights between Panama City (BLB) and Havana (HAV). Flights to Havana will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

 

Peru | No flights allowed from 2 am to 5 am at Jorge Chávez (LIM) due to maintenance works, from August 29 to October 29
From August 29 to October 29, no flights will be allowed between 2:00 am and 5:00 am at Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM) due to maintenance works.

 

United States | American Airways to cut a number of its scheduled flights in September and October at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL)
On August 4, American Airlines announced that it will cut a number of scheduled flights in September and October at its hub in Philadelphia. Roughly 3% of scheduled September flights will be cut and 5% in October, equating to around 1,800 flights. According to the airline, the decision was made in order to “size our airline for the resources we have available and to build additional buffer into the remainder of our summer schedule.”

On August 30, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party will stage a nationwide protest. A party official announced the protest to demand justice for the killing of a politician by law enforcement.

 

China | Chinese military exercise to be held in the waters of Beibu Gulf on August 29 and 30
On August 29 and 30, a live-fire Chinese military exercise is scheduled to take place in the waters of Beibu Gulf from 07.00 am to 06.00 pm local time.

 

Indonesia | Domestic flight passengers required to have COVID booster vaccine from August 29
On August 29, domestic flight passengers will be required to have a COVID booster vaccine. The rule applies to local domestic flight passengers aged 18 or above, while those aged 6 to 17 will be required to have a second vaccine dose. Foreign nationals travelling domestically must also have had a second vaccine dose.

 

Japan | Evacuation order due to high radiation levels to be lifted in Futaba, Fukushima from August 30
From August 30, the evacuation order due to high radiation levels will be lifted in parts of Futaba, Fukushima. The area in Futaba where the evacuation order will be lifted covers 5.55 square kilometres around JR Futaba station. This is the third area to see its evacuation order lifted in Fukushima. In June, the evacuation orders were lifted for part of the town of Okuma and Katsurao.

 

Philippines – Cambodia | Philippine Airlines to introduce additional flight services between Manila (MNL) and Phnom Penh (PNH) from September 1
From September 1, Philippine Airlines will introduce additional flight services between Manila (MNL) and Phnom Penh (PNH). The airline will operate 5 flights per week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday) from Manila to Phnom Penh and 5 flight return flights per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) from Phnom Penh to Manila.

 

Singapore | COVID-19 face mask mandate to be lifted on August 29, except on public transport and in healthcare facilities
On August 29, the COVID-19 face mask mandate will be lifted, except on public transport and in healthcare facilities. The announcement was made, on August 24, by Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong during the Multi-Ministry Taskforce (MTF) press conference.

 

Singapore | 7-day home quarantine requirement to be lifted for not fully vaccinated travellers from August 29
On August 29, the 7-day home quarantine requirement will be lifted for incoming travellers who have not been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. However, while entering the country, the non-fully vaccinated travellers will still be required to show a negative COVID-19 test (PCR or antigen) taken 72 hours before departure.

 

South Korea | Government to implement electronic travel authorisation for foreign travellers from visa-free nations arriving in Jeju starting from September 1
From September 1, the government will implement the Korea Electronic Travel Authorisation (K-ETA) for foreign travellers from visa-free nations arriving in Jeju Islands. Eligible visitors from 112 countries will be required to submit their personal information on the K-ETA website before entering Jeju.

 

South Korea | Protest to be held at the entrance of THAAD military base in Seongju-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do on September 3
On September 3, a protest is scheduled to be held at the entrance of the THAAD military base in Soseong-ri, Seongju-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do. The protest is scheduled due to the announcement to normalise the operation of the THAAD base.

 

Sri Lanka | MPs functioning independently of SLPP party to launch new political alliance on September 4
On September 4, the members of parliament functioning independently of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) party are planning to launch a new political alliance. The National Freedom Front (NFF) leader, MP Wimal Weerawansa, is expected to be appointed as the chairman of the alliance. The formal inauguration of the party will take place at Maharagama Youth Center.

 

Taiwan | Rules for the last 4 days of arrival COVID-19 protocol to be eased from September 1
From September 1, inbound travellers will be able to spend the last 4 days of self-health monitoring in their homes, as long as they can follow the principle of “one person per room”.

On September 2, a bike rally demonstration will be held in Vienna. The demonstration will be staged by Radeln For Future against the use of concrete in bike lanes. The demonstrators will gather at Votivpark at 5 pm and will start a bike rally at 5.30 pm local time.

 

Belgium | Traffic disruptions to be expected due to maintenance work in Antwerp, Flemish Community from August 29 to 31
From August 29 to 31, there will be traffic disruptions in Antwerp, Flemish Community. Blauwtorentunnel, Gasthuistunnel and Van Eycktunnel will not be accessible to traffic between 9 am and 3 pm local time due to maintenance work on handrails and safety glass at entrances.

 

Czech Republic | Military exercise “Ample Strike” to take place from August 29 to September 16
From August 29 to September 16, a military exercise “Ample Strike” will take place in the Czech Republic. 700 Czech and 200 foreign soldiers from Estonia, Latvia, Germany, Slovakia, Slovenia and the USA are scheduled to take part. Training will take place at the airports in Náměšt nad Oslavou, Čáslav and Kbely, in the training areas of Boletice and Libavá and in the vicinity of České Budějovice. The exercise is focused on harmonizing the procedures of advanced JTACs with aircrews and ground commanders in a multinational environment.

 

European Union – Russia | EU foreign ministers to reportedly propose abolition of Schengen visa simplified procedure for Russian citizens on August 30
On August 30, the foreign ministers of the EU countries will reportedly support a proposal to abolish the 2007 simplified procedure for issuing Schengen visas to Russian citizens. The proposal will reportedly be presented by Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky at a meeting in Prague. Russians applying for a Schengen visa will have to provide more documents, and consular fees and procedure time will increase.

 

France | Unions call for public transport strike in Lille, Hauts-de-France from September 3
From September 3, 3 unions have called for a public transport strike in Lille, Hauts-de-France. The strike has been called by the CGT, CFDT, and CFTC transport unions for better wages and working conditions. The strike will affect the Braderie weekend and traffic disruption will be expected.

 

France | Demonstration to be held in Bordeaux, Nouvelle-Aquitaine on September 4
On September 4, a demonstration will be held in Bordeaux, Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The demonstration will be staged by the Noncrabioparc collective against the CRA. The demonstration will take place at Bioparc, Allée Charles-Darwin at 10 am local time.

 

Germany | Antifascist demonstration to be held in Leipzig, Saxony on August 29
On August 29, an antifascist demonstration will be held in Leipzig, Saxony. The protest will start at 6:45 pm local time at Allee-Center Station. The protest was staged after an arson attack occurred on a refugee center.

 

Germany | Demonstration to be held in Lützerath, North Rhine-Westphalia on September 3
On September 3, a demonstration will be held in Lützerath, North Rhine-Westphalia. The protest will be staged against the use of coal. The demonstration will start at 12 pm local time.

 

Germany – Russia | Gazprom to shut Nord Stream 1 pipeline for 3 days (August 31 – September 1)
On August 19, Gazprom announced that the Nord Stream 1 pipeline, which supplies gas from Russia to Europe under the Baltic Sea, will be shut down from August 31 to September 2 for maintenance. “It is necessary to carry out maintenance every 1,000 hours” of operation, Gazprom said in a statement. “On August 31, 2022, the only Trent 60 gas compression unit will be stopped for three days for maintenance” involving technicians from Germany’s Siemens, Gazprom said.

 

Hungary | Student demonstrations to be held in Budapest on September 2
On September 2, student demonstrations, organized by the Students for Teachers group, will be held in Budapest. The demonstration will begin at Saint Stephen’s Basilica at 4 pm local time and will proceed towards the Ministry of the Interior. The students are protesting over the shortage of teachers and other issues.

 

Italy | Road closures scheduled on Grande Raccordo Anulare in Rome, Lazio, August 29-30
From August 29-30, road closures are scheduled on the Grande Raccordo Anulare (GRA) in Rome, Lazio:
– From 10 pm local time on August 29 to 2 am on August 30, the GRA-Rome South branch will be closed from Tuscolana to the Rome South branch.
– From 1 am to 5 am on August 30, the entrance ramp of GRA in the direction of Casilina will be closed.

 

Italy | Rail traffic to be suspended between Naples and Salerno, Campania from August 29 to October 30
From August 29 to October 30, there will be traffic disruption between Naples and Salerno, Campania. Due to maintenance work, there will be suspension of rail traffic between Torre Annunziata Centrale and Nocera Inferiore and route limitation of some regional trains.

 

Netherlands | Extinction Rebellion demonstration to be held in Zandvoort, North Holland on September 3
On September 3, a demonstration will be held in Zandvoort, North Holland. The demonstration will be staged by Extinction Rebellion climate activists against Formula One. The protesters will gather at Haarlem station at around 11 am local time before heading to the Heemstede-Aerdenhout station, and then to the Circuit Zandvoort.

 

North Macedonia | Energy-saving measures to be introduced from September 1
From September 1, North Macedonia will introduce energy-saving measures. The goal is to reduce consumption by 15% compared to the same month last year. Some of the recommendations to state institutions include turning off the decorative lighting on the facades of public objects and cultural monuments, not setting up air conditioners below 27 degrees and heating systems above 20 degrees, regularly changing the filters of the heating elements and air conditioners, and replacing the windows with energy-efficient ones. The measures will be valid until March 31, 2023.

On August 31, a protest will be held in London, England. The protest will be staged by ‘Extinction Rebellion’ climate activists against fossil fuels. The protest will take place at Science Museum at 6 pm local time.

 

United Kingdom | Power supply to be disrupted, on August 31, due to maintenance work in Bolton, England
On August 31, the power supply will be disrupted, due to maintenance work, in Bolton, England. The power cut will affect 134 homes and businesses between Bromley Cross and Egerton.

 

United Kingdom | Rally to held in support of public transport in London, England, on August 31
On August 31, a rally will be held in support of public transport in London, England. The rally will occur at 7:00 pm local time at TUC Congress House, 23-28 Great Russell Street. Union representatives from ASLEF, RMT, and Unite will be present, along with Senator Bernie Sanders and Labour politicians John McDonnell and Elly Baker. The rally is held against the cuts to services and staffing in public transport, as well as increasing prices.

Between September 1 and 7, the Education and Science Employees’ union, Egitim-Is, is planning to hold demonstrations, against the Teaching Profession Law, in different parts of the country. According to Egitim-Is, the demonstrations will be staged:
– On September 1 in Burdur
– On September 2 in Izmir
– On September 3 in Istanbul
– On September 5 in Samsun
– On September 7 in Diyarbakir

 

Turkey | Political parties and NGOs reportedly planning to hold rally in Van on September 1
On September 1, political parties, including the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), and NGOs are reportedly planning to hold a rally in Van. The rally, being organised on the occasion of World Peace Day, is scheduled to be held in the Musa Anter Park.

 

Turkey | Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) to hold election rallies in September in Sivas, Bursa, Kayseri, and Erzurum
Between September 4 and 25, the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) will hold election rallies in Sivas, Bursa, Kayseri, and Erzurum. The rally will be held in Sivas on September 4, in Bursa on September 11, in Kayseri on September 18, and in Erzurum on September 25. The rallies will reportedly mark the commencement of the MHP campaign for the 2023 elections.

 

United Arab Emirates – Kenya | UAE government planning to extend duration of visit visa for Kenyan nationals to minimum of 6 months from September 2022
From September 2022, the UAE government is planning to extend the duration of the visit visa for Kenyan nationals to a minimum of 6 months. The UAE Minister for Foreign Trade, Than Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, gave the assurance of extending the visit visa duration during a meeting in Nairobi with the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry President, Richard Ngatia, and the Charge d’affaires of the UAE Embassy in Kenya, H.E. Dr Khalifa Al Rayssi.

 

United Arab Emirates – Nigeria | Emirates to suspend flights to and from Nigeria from September 1
From September 1, Emirates airline announced the suspension of all flights to and from Nigeria. The decision was allegedly taken due to the carrier’s inability to repatriate its funds ($85 million) from Nigeria.
