Chad – Madagascar – Niger – Republic of Congo (Brazzaville) – Senegal | ASECNA air traffic controllers’ union issues strike notice for August 25-27
From August 25 to 27, the air traffic controllers’ union of the Agency for Aerial Navigation Safety in Africa and Madagascar (ASECNA) is planning to stage a strike. The USYCAA union’s list of 19 demands includes reinforcement of operational capacities, professional fulfilment, and the career plan of the ASECNA air traffic controller. ASECNA manages airspace which covers 6 Flight Information Regions (FIRs) – Antananarivo, Brazzaville, Dakar Oceanic and Terrestrial, Niamey, and N’Djamena.

 

Niger | Transport sector unions to stage 24-hour strike on August 22
On August 22, the transport sector unions are planning to stage a 24-hour strike. The strike is being organised over reduction in fuel prices, reduction of checkpoints, and against police harassment.

 

Nigeria – South Africa | Air Peace to suspend Lagos-Johannesburg flight operations for at least 2 months starting from August 22
From August 22, Air Peace will suspend its Lagos-Johannesburg flight operations for at least 2 months. According to the airline, the decision was made due to the scarcity and increasing cost of aviation fuel and the delay in the issuance of visas for passengers.

United States | Protest against Roe v. Wade decision to be held in Bluffton, South Carolina on August 26
On August 26, a protest against the Roe v. Wade decision will be held in Bluffton, South Carolina. The demonstration will begin at 11 am local time at Oscar Frazier Park and will move towards Old Town Bluffton.

 

United States | Rally against the illegal detention of men in Haiti to be held in New York City, New York on August 23
On August 23, a rally against the illegal detention of men in Haiti will be held in New York City, New York. The rally will begin at 10 am local time and will take place outside the Consulate General of Haiti on 815 Second Avenue.

 

Uruguay | Private health workers to stage a strike and rally in Montevideo, on August 23
On August 23, private health workers will stage a strike and rally in Montevideo. The walkout is scheduled from 8:00 to 3:00 pm local time. At 8:00 am the workers will gather at Obelisco and march to the Ministry of Work.

 

Venezuela | Active and retired public sector workers to protest in Caracas, Capital District on August 23
On August 23, active and retired public sector workers will hold a protest in Caracas, Capital District. The protest will take place at the corner of Salas de Caracas at an undisclosed time. The demonstration is staged to demand the repeal of the Onapre instructions.

On August 27, Extinction Rebellion will hold a bike rally to call for climate action in Carlton, Victoria. The rally will be held from around 10 am until 12 noon local time from 60 Leicester street.

 

Australia | Extinction Rebellion members to cause disruptions in Brunswick, Victoria on August 27
On August 27, Extinction Rebellion members will meet to cause disruptions in Brunswick, Victoria. Participants will meet at around 10.30 am for approximately 2 hours at the Barkly Street Park.

 

India | Farmers to protest in New Delhi, Delhi on August 22
On August 22, farmers are planning to protest in New Delhi, Delhi. The protests will be held at the Jantar Mantar at an unspecified time. The protestors are also planning to pass through the Ghazipur border in Ghaziabad. Delhi police have installed concrete barricades and intensified security at the Delhi-Haryana Tikri border in preparation. Traffic movement has been disrupted in the morning (local time), due to heightened security, at the Noida-Delhi Chilla border.

 

India | Water supply to be disrupted, on August 22 and 23, in parts of Gurugram, Haryana
On August 22 and 23, the water supply will be disrupted for a period of 24 hours in parts of Gurugram, Haryana. The water outage will occur between 8 am local time on August 22 and 8 am on August 23. The affected areas will include: Sectors 4, 5, 9, 12, 14, 17, 18, 21, 22, 23, 23 A; Gurgaon village; Dayanand Colony; Rajiv Nagar; Sheetla Colony; Dharam Colony; Palam Vihar; Ashok Vihar Phase 1 and 2; Maruti Udyog; HSIIDC; Chauma; Dundahera; Mullahera; and, Carterpuri

 

India | Congress party to hold rally in Delhi on August 28
On August 28, the Congress party will hold a ‘Mehangai Par Halla Bol’ rally in Delhi. The protest will be held at the Ramlila maidan. Protests are due to price rises and unemployment.

 

India | Protests to be staged in Pehowa, Haryana August 25, 26
From August 25 to August 26, Protests are to be staged in Pehowa, Haryana. Hundreds of farmers have voted for the demonstrations to take place at all the Haryana ministers’ residences beginning at 10 am local time until 5:00 pm the following day. The protests are held in response to the government attempting to take thousands of acres of cultivatable land from farmers.

 

New Zealand | Streets around parliament to be closed from August 21 ahead of Brian Tamaki-led protest on August 23 in Wellington
From August 21, streets around the parliament will be closed off, ahead of the Brian Tamaki-led Freedom & Rights Coalition (FARC) protest on August 23, in Wellington. Road closures will be in place from the morning of August 21 at the Parliament end of Lambton Quay, lower Molesworth Street, and Kate Sheppard Place.

 

New Zealand | NZ Professional Firefighters Union to hold 1-hour nationwide strike on August 26
On August 26, the NZ Professional Firefighters Union will hold a 1-hour nationwide strike. The strike will be held from 12:00 pm local time. Around 2,000 firefighters and staff could strike due to wage disputes.

 

South Korea – United States | South Korea and US announce war game drills from August 22 to September 1
From August 22 to September 1, South Korea and the United States will stage war game drills. 11 joint exercises will include air, naval, and ground personnel and equipment. The joint military exercises are the first in nearly 4 years after ceasing the activities in an attempt to hold talks with North Korea. North Korea has warned both sides against the war games.

 

Pakistan | Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) announced sit-in outside Parliament House in Islamabad on August 23
On August 23, the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) announced a sit-in outside the Parliament House in Islamabad. They will protest against the suspension of ARY News transmission.

On August 24, former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is likely to return to Sri Lanka. The information was shared by former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia, Udayanga Weeratunga.

Germany | Climate activists to stage demonstration with boats in Berlin on August 28
On August 28, a demonstration will be held in Berlin. The demonstration will be staged by BUND and Berliner Erneuerbarfor more climate protection. The demonstration will start at East Side Gallery near the Warschauer Straße train station and will take place on the Spree river with boats at 12 pm local time.

 

Germany | Climate activists protest to be held in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia on August 27
On August 27, a protest will be held in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia. The protest will be staged by Fridays for Future, Ende Gelände, Lützerath Lebt, and RWE & CO Enteignen against the climate crisis. The protest will take place in Hohenzollernring at 12 pm local time.

 

Netherlands | Traffic diversions planned due to maintenance work on Haringvliet Bridge in Numansdorp, South Holland, from August 26-29
From August 26-29, traffic diversions are planned, due to maintenance work on Haringvliet Bridge in Numansdorp, South Holland. The following diversions will occur from 9.30 pm local time on August 26 to 5 am on August 29:
– Traffic from Rotterdam towards Bergen-op-Zoom will be diverted via the A15, A16, A17 or A59
– Traffic from Rotterdam towards Zierikzee will be diverted via the A15, N57.
– Traffic from Bergen-op-Zoom towards Rotterdam will be diverted via the A59/A17, A16, A15.
– Traffic from Zierikzee towards Rotterdam will be diverted via the N57, A15.

 

Netherlands | Railway staff to go on strike on August 24, 26, 29, 30, and 31
On August 24, 26, 29, 30, and 31, a strike will be held by railway staff. The strike will be held by Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) staff supported by FNV, CNV, and VVMC unions for a wage increase and will start on August 24 in the northern region. On August 26, staff in the western part of the Netherlands will be on strike. On August 29, the strike will be held in the northwestern part. On August 30, the strikes will be held in the central part of the country. On August 31, the strike will be held in the eastern and southern parts of the Netherlands.

 

Romania | TAROM airline employees to strike on August 23
On August 23, employees with the Romanian airline TAROM announced a strike between 4:00 to 7:00 am and to continue striking 2 days a week until their demands are met. The employees are asking for an increase in food allowances and say that it does not keep up with inflation.

 

Spain | Iberia Express cabin crew to go on strike at Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD) from August 28 to September 6
From August 28 to September 6, a strike will be held at Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD). The strike will be staged by Iberia express cabin crew supported by the USO union for an annual salary review and a salary increase.

 

Spain | UPA-COAG and Asaja Zamora protest to be held in Tábara, Castile and León on August 26
On August 26, a protest will be held in Tábara, Castile and León. The protest will be staged by UPA-COAG and Asaja Zamora to speed up compensation and policy decisions after the devastating fires in the province.

 

Spain | Agrarian workers protest to be held in Tabara, Castile and León on August 26
On August 26, agrarian workers will protest in Tabara, Castile and Leon. The rally will start at 11:45 am local time at the sport pavilion. The protest was called by the agrarian unions COAG, UPA and ASAJA.

 

United Kingdom | Essex Suffolk Fuel Price protestors to demonstrate on A12 at Colchester, England on August 28
On August 28, Essex Suffolk Fuel Price protestors will demonstrate on the A12 at Colchester, England. The protest is against fuel prices. The rally will start at 7:30 am local time, traffic delays are expected.

 

United Kingdom | Ukraine Solidarity rally to be held in Nottingham, East Midlands on August 27
On August 27, a rally will be held in Nottingham, East Midlands. The rally will be staged by Notts Ukraine Solidarity for the 6th month of the Russian Invasion of Ukraine. The rally will start in front of the Brian Clough Statue, on King Street, at 1 pm local time.

 

United Kingdom | Protest against LTN to be held in Oxford, England on August 27
On August 27, a protest will be held in Oxford, England. The protest will be staged in low-traffic neighbourhoods (LTN). The demonstration will take place at the LTN bollard at the junction of Crowell Road and Littlemore Road.

 

United Kingdom | Postal workers strike to be held nationwide on August 26 and 31 and on September 8 and 9
On August 26 and 31 and September 8 and 9, a strike will be held nationwide. The strike will be staged by Royal Mail’s postal workers for a pay increase.

 

Ukraine | Curfew to be enforced in Kharkiv Oblast on August 23-25
On August 23-25, a curfew will be enforced in Kharkiv Oblast. The curfew will last from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am local time. The curfew will be put into place for security reason during the Independence day.

On August 23, all Iranian airlines will stop operating flights to Malaysian airports. It comes after Malaysian airports started refusing to supply fuel to Iranian airplanes due to US sanctions on Iran. Iran Air and Mahan Airline had direct flights from Tehran to Kuala Lumpur.

 

Qatar – Saudi Arabia | Qatar Airways will resume flights between Hamad International Airport (DOH) and Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz International Airport (ELQ) on August 22
On August 22, Qatar Airways will resume flights between Hamad International Airport (DOH) and Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz International Airport (ELQ). The airline also said that once resumed, there would be 4 flights per week between the two airports.

 

Tunisia – Japan | Japan’s Prime Minister scheduled to visit Tunisia on August 27 and 28
On August 27 and 28, Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is scheduled to travel to Tunisia for the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).

 

Tunisia | 2-day strike planned by television technicians and journalists on August 26 and 27
On August 26 and 27, a 2-day strike is planned by television technicians and journalists. The strike was announced by the Tunisian Regional Labor Union and workers hope to improve working conditions with regard to their status and social balance.

 

Turkey – Palestinian territories | President Abbas to visit Ankara for an official 3-day visit
On August 22-24, Palestinian President Abbas will visit Ankara for an official 3-day visit. Discussions between President Abbas and President Erdogan will focus on Turkish-Palestinian relations and regional developments of mutual concern.
