On October 10, staff attached to the Federation of Congo Enterprises (FEC) will go on a 7-days strike in Butembo, Beni, and Lubero, North Kivu. The strike will be held in order to protest over renewed insecurity in these cities. All businesses will close with the exception of pharmacies and schools.

 

Ghana | UTAG and other unions planning to hold a nationwide public university faculty strike on October 13
On October 13, the University Teacher Association of Ghana (UTAG), Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU), Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSAG), and the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) are planning to hold a public university faculty strike across Ghana. The strike is being organised to demand better working conditions from the Ministry of Finance.

 

Nigeria – South Africa Air Peace to resume flight operations to Oliver Tambo International Airport (JNB), Johannesburg, Gauteng on October 10
On October 10, the Nigerian company Air Peace will resume flight operations to Johannesburg, Gauteng. The operations will be resumed at Oliver Tambo International Airport (JNB). It comes after the airline suspended its operations in South Africa on August 22, 2022, due to delays in the issuance of South African visas to travellers, along with the worsening forex crunch and the increasing cost of aviation fuel as well as its scarcity.

 

South Africa | SATAWU to go on a 48-hours strike nationwide on October 10
On October 10, the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) is expected to go on a 48-hours strike nationwide. The workers are demanding a better wage deal with Transnet. The strike action threatens to curb trade in materials including coal, iron ore, chrome, and manganese because the company’s rail and ports network is key to South African exports of bulk commodities.

 

Sudan | Traders to engage in sit-in, closure of commercial activities and stock exchange in Al Qadarif on October 10
On October 10, traders will engage in an open sit-in, with a complete closure of all commercial activities and the stock exchange in Al Qadarif, Al Qadarif State. The demonstration will take place in front of the tax offices of the State.

On October 12, Unión Tranviarios Automotor (UTA) calls for a 48-hour strike. The strike will not affect Buenos Aires metropolitan area. The strike is being held over a dispute for an increase in wages.

 

Argentina | Strikes by lecturers are scheduled in Rosario, Santa Fe
On October 5, 13 and 14, strikes by lecturers of the National University of Rosario are scheduled in Rosario, Santa Fe. The strikes are being undertaken to demand a salary increment. The strikes will be held as follows:

– October 5: a 24-hour strike will be held
– October 13 and 14: a 48-hour strike will be held.”

 

Colombia | Gas supply to be disrupted, from October 8 to 20, in parts of Cundinamarca, Meta, and San Jos del Guaviare city
From October 8 to 20, the gas supply will be disrupted in parts of Cundinamarca, Meta, and San Jos del Guaviare city. The disruption will be caused due to maintenance work at an Ecopetrol gas pipeline.

 

Ecuador | State of exception extended in Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón until October 14
From September 14 to October 14, the State of exception has been extended in Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón. The state of exception has been imposed due to insecurity in the areas.

 

Mexico | Demolition of bridges of Avenida 5 de Febrero in Santiago de Querétaro, Querétaro from October 15
From October 15, the demolition of the bridges of Avenida 5 de Febrero will begin at night according to the Secretary of Urban Development and Public Works (SDUOP).

 

Nicaragua | All sailings suspended in the Caribbean due to upcoming tropical storm, from October 7 to 10
On October 6, authorities suspended sailings in the Caribbean due to an upcoming tropical storm from October 7 to 10. The measure affects all sailings from the South Caribbean Autonomous Region and the North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region.

 

United States | Demonstration organized by climate and environmental activists in Albany, New York on October 14
On October 14, a demonstration has been organized by climate and environmental activists in Albany, New York. The demonstration will occur from 4:15 to 5:15 pm local time at Academy Park. The demonstration is against fossil fuels.

 

Uruguay | PIT-CNT calls for a mobilisation and march in Montevideo on October 11
On October 11, the workers’ union PIT-CNT has called for a mobilisation and march in Montevideo. The union has urged its members to gather in Plaza Cagancha at 6 pm local time followed by a march to the Executive Tower. The mobilisation call has been issued to reject the government’s decision to make NGO Uruguay Adelante in charge of providing food supplies to food distribution centres.

From October 8 to 10, an orange alert was issued due to strong winds expected in Shandong. The notice was issued by the Shandong Meteorological Observatory at 04.00 pm local time.

 

India | AMMK to stage protests in various parts of Tamil Nadu on October 12
On October 12, AMMK to stage protests in various parts of Tamil Nadu. Protests will be held at 10 am local time near Chennai Collectorate, while senior party leaders would lead protests against the DMK government in their respective districts. The protestors are opposing the recent hike in electricity tariff.

 

India – United States | India and US to conduct joint military exercises in Auli, Uttarakhand, from October 14 to 31
From October 14 to 31, India and the US are to conduct joint military exercises in Auli, Uttarakhand. The last joint military exercises between the countries took place in Alaska in October 2021. Sources claim the exercise is to enhance understanding, cooperation, and interoperability between the countries’ armed forces.

Starting October 11, authorities will reduce COVID-19 entry restrictions for foreign visitors. The measures include allowing the entry of independent foreign travelers, reintroduction of visa-free entry, and implementing of incentives to attract travelers into the country.

 

Singapore | All COVID-19 vaccination-differentiated measures to be lifted from October 10
From October 10, all COVID-19 vaccination-differentiated measures will be lifted. This means that restrictions are no longer in place for dining in, nightlife establishments and events with more than 500 participants. All employees are allowed to return to the workplace, and the Disease Outbreak Response System Condition (DORSCON) level was lowered from Orange to Yellow.

From October 7 to 10, Bangkok is on alert for flooding due to heavy rainfall and the release of water from dams in the northern parts of Thailand. The Chao Phraya River could witness surges in water levels in the coming days and there is also a risk of high tides. The agreements that will be terminated are the Agreement on the simplification of journeys for residents of border areas, the Agreement on mutual assistance in customs matters, and the Agreement on air traffic. The agreements will be suspended until Belarus ends violations of international law in relation to Ukraine.

 

Belgium | Demonstration against rising energy prices to be held in Quiévrain, Wallonia on October 16
On October 16, a demonstration will be held in Quiévrain, Wallonia. The demonstration will be staged against rising energy prices. The demonstration will start in front of the Centre d’Animation at 3 pm local time.

 

Bulgaria | Protest demanding resignation of the mayor to be held in Sofia on October 12
On October 12, a protest demanding the resignation of the mayor will be held in Sofia. The protest will be held at 6 pm local time outside the Metropolitan Municipality building.

 

France | Demonstration against high cost of living to be held in Paris, Ile-de-France, on October 16
On October 16, a demonstration against the high cost of living will be held in Paris, Ile-de-France. The demonstration is organized by La France insoumise, the Socialist Party, EELV, and other political organizations. The details of route and timing of the demonstrations are forthcoming.

 

France | Medical interns go on strike nationwide on October 14
On October 14, a strike will be held nationwide. The warning strike will be staged by medical interns supported by Isni and Isnar-IMG unions against the one-year extension of internship for future general practitioners.

 

France | Demonstration to demand the release of Georges Abdallah to be held in Lyon, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes on October 14
On October 14, a demonstration will be held in Lyon, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. The demonstration will be staged by “Collectif 69 de Soutien au Peuple Palestinien” to demand the release of Georges Abdallah from prison. The demonstration will take place at Palais de Justice 24 Colonnes from 6 pm to 8 pm local time.

 

France – Germany | France to start export of natural gas to Germany from October 10
From October 10, France will start to export natural gas to Germany, as the head of the French Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE), Emmanuelle Wargon, announced. The interconnection point for gas supply will be Obergailbach, Grand Est.

From October 10 to 24, Kutaisi International Airport (KUT) will be closed for maintenance works on the runway. According to the Union of Airports of Georgia “airlines operating at the airport would make individual decisions on whether to continue flights through other Georgian airports or to pause connections for the two weeks.

 

Germany | Traffic disruption due to highway work to be expected on A7 in Hamburg from October 7 to 10
From October 7 to 10, traffic disruption due to highway work will be expected on A7 in Hamburg:

– On October 7, from 10 pm local time, there will be road disruptions between Hamburg-Heimfeld and Othmarschen. Elbe tunnel in the direction of Flensburg/Kiel will be impassable.
– On October 9, from 4 pm local time. The south lane between Volkspark and Waltershof will be completely closed. The closure will last until October 10 at 5 am.”

 

Hungary – Romania | AirConnect to launch 2 flights to Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) from October 15

From October 15, AirConnect will launch 2 flights to Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD). The flights will operate from Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport (CLJ) and Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport (OTP). The flights are scheduled twice per week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

On October 10, public transport workers will take 24-hour strike action in Tuscany. The strike will start at 0:00 am, and end at 11:59 pm. The strike is organized by the OSP SLM-FAST-CONFSAL union.

On October 10, a march will be held in Florence, Tuscany. The march will be staged by Uil Toscana against work-related deaths. The march will take place on Viale Filippo Strozzi from 9 am to 10 am local time.

On October 15, an Extinction Rebellion protest will be held in The Hague, South Holland. The protest will take place on the A12 highway, between the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate and the House of Representatives at 12 pm local time. The protest will be staged against the 17.5 billion subsidy provided to the fossil industry.

 

Poland | Public transport employees to go on a strike in Rzeszów, Subcarpathian Voivodeship, on October 14
On October 14, a strike will be organized in Rzeszów, Subcarpathian Voivodeship. Public transport employees will go on an all-day strike after failed negotiations with the government regarding salary increases. From October 10 to 14, Transtejo ferry workers in Lisboa will stage a partial strike for 3 hours per shift. The strike is being organised to demand an increase in wages.

 

Spain | Demonstration against the deterioration of healthcare to be held in Donostia-San Sebastian, Basque Country on October 15

The protest has been organized to support 2 activists who were charged with unauthorized access to Växjö Airport on October 31, 2021.

 

Switzerland | Teachers and civil servants to take strike action in Geneva on October 12
On October 12, teachers and civil servants are scheduled to take strike action in Geneva. The strike action is being taken to protest the increased cost of living.

 

Switzerland | Public transport workers to go on strike in Geneva on October 12
On October 12, a strike will be held in Geneva. The strike will be staged by public transport workers supported by SEV and Transfair unions for a wage increase. Disruptions on tram and bus lines will be expected.

 

United Kingdom | West Midlands Metro workers to go on strike for 52 days between October 15, 2022 and January 5, 2023
Between October 2022 and January 2023, West Midlands Metro workers will go on strike for 52 days. The strikes will cause disruptions throughout Birmingham and the Black Country. They will take place on the following dates:

– October 15, 19, 20, 22, 24, 26, 29, 31
– November 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 29, 30

The strikes have been launched due to wage disputes.

 

United Kingdom | Road works in A55 in Kingsland, Wales, from October 12 to October 19
On October 12, there will be resurfacing work on the A55 in Kingsland, Wales. The work will commence at 12:00 am local time on October 12 and last until 11:45 pm local time on October 19. Resurfacing work will occur in both directions, from Black Bridge to the Kingsland road roundabout, in Holyhead, and local diversions as well as 5-way traffic lights will be in place.

 

United Kingdom | Road closure affect bus routes in St. Osyth, England, from October 10 to October 28
On October 10, road closures will affect bus routes in St. Osyth, England.

– 6 bus route: unable to use Clacton Road, will use Colchester Road instead.
– 74 bus route: unable to serve St. Osty.
-101 bus route: will collect and drop off from Colchester Road instead of Clacton Road.

Road closure of Clacton Road will last until October 28. Bus commuters are advised to prepare accordingly.”

 

United Kingdom | Extinction Rebellion protest to take place in London, England on October 10
On October 10, an Extinction Rebellion protest will take place in London, England. It will begin at the BEIS Offices on Victoria Street at 5:30 pm local time.

 

United Kingdom | RMT bus drivers in Somerset and Cornwall to strike for 4 days between October 10 and November 11
Between October 10 and November 11, RMT-associated bus drivers will strike for 4 days in South West England. The strikes will take place in Cornwall and Somerset on the following days:

– October 10
– October 21
– November 4
– November 11

The strikes have been launched due to pay disputes.

 

United Kingdom | Tram drivers in Croydon, England to strike on October 10-11
On October 10 and 11, tram drivers will go on a strike in Croydon, England. Tram services will be disrupted for the entirety of these days. The strike has been launched by workers associated with the ASLEF union and follows previous strikes in June and July over pay disputes.

 

United Kingdom | Unionized ScotRail workers to take strike action on October 10
On October 10, unionized ScotRail workers will take strike action on October 10. The strike action is being taken over wage disputes. Rail services across Scotland are expected to be significantly impacted.

On October 9 and 10, France’s Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne visits Algeria where she is accompanied by 16 French ministers. This visit aims to concretize “the renewed partnership” between France and Algeria which was announced in August.

 

Lebanon | Parliamentary session to elect a president to be held on October 13
On October 13, the Lebanese Parliament will hold a session to elect a president. The parliamentary session will start at 11:00 am local time. The election session was called by President Speaker Nabih Berri following the failure of the parliament to elect a successor to the incumbent President Michel Aoun on September 29.

 

Morocco | National Syndicate of Public Health to stage a protest in Marrakesh on October 13
On October 13, a protest will be staged by the National Syndicate of Public Health due to the congestion at Muhammad VI University Hospital in Marrakesh. The action will start at 9 am local time in front of the Center’s Directorate.

 

Tunisia | Demonstration expected to take place in Tunis on October 15
On October 15, a demonstration is expected to take place in Tunis, Tunis Governorate. The protest is scheduled to start at 11 am local time in front of the Place de la Monnaie and travel to the municipal theatre. The protest is being organized by the Ennahdha Party against the rule of Kais Saied.

 

Tunisia | Journalists’ unions to stage a protest in Tunis on October 13
On October 13, the National Union of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT) and the General Union of Media (UGTT) will stage a protest in Tunis. The protest will be held at Place de la Kasbah.
